What's up with the Dolphin?

I just returned from the Dolphin where I attended a conference. I thought the hotel and the rooms were very nice.

We booked the Dolphin for later this year as I found a good rate there for the week after Christmas and the Disney resorts are full.

However, I've been reading the reviews on tripadvisor.com and the general feeling there is that the Dolphin is really bad, they have serious mold and mildew issues, and this is not a good place to stay. Many of the reviews there are rated at 1 or 2 stars out of 5 and the reviews discuss problems similar to those you would read relating to some of the cheapest off site hotels.

Anyone from DIS have similar issues to those found on tripadvisor, or is that site just generally negative in regards to the Dolphin?

As I mentioned, I had a good stay there recently, but I'm worried that I got one of the few good rooms as there are sure a lot of people unhappy with this hotel on tripadvisor.

Hi,

We have spent 14 nights at the Dolphin this year, in three different rooms, and never had any problem with mold. The rooms were comfortable and the beds were great! We are looking forward to going back.

The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Definitely a deluxe hotel with our personal rating of a 4 or 5. Go by the experience you had previously and have fun!!

We stayed there twice in the past and never had any issues. We are heading back in December but wanted to try the swan this time. Before I stayed at the Dolphin I also read the Trip Advisor reports about mold and was worried but it worked out great for us on both trips.

Where di you find a good rate for the week after Christmad? Better that $299?

Yes, much better than $299. TripRes.com currently has that week at the Dolphin for an average per night cost of $215 for standard view.

Thanks for the other replies, I think that tripadvisor.com has a few reviewers with bad experiences and the good experiences aren't being posted on that site.

I rtried to book the same deal with tripres. It wouldn't go through online and when I called they said that rate was no longer available -- the rate they offered was way more that that.

Hmmm...sorry I don't know. It worked fine for me on 10/12 and I even called to confirm that they had my room requests.

I didn't have any problems then, I wonder if they are sold out of their block of rooms and the website hasn't been updated?:sad1:

Well...I just went online and got the rooms for $229 each. I called to follow up with my itenerary # and they said 'we are still working on your confirmation'. We'll see, fingers crossed.

Spent 3 nights there this summer, before moving to BCV for 6 nights.
Next summer, we're going to skip the Dolphin & just stay at BCV.

Our room (15th floor) was very damp our entire stay. So much so, that any wet items we hung up (like a bathing suit) in the room, NEVER DRIED. Our brochures & other papers also got damp & started to curl up.

Even DH said we won't go back.
Except for the dampness.....it's a very nice place to stay...just not quite Disneyish for us.

We have been on the 8th floor in both wings (2 different trips) and never had a problem with mold or dampness.
We love the Dolphin, the location and the rates.
