Why do I keep reading about a ROOF TOP POOL? This sounds terrible! I picture it crashing in and flooding the entire place.
Please tell me this aint so! :faint:
Forgive me. I'm an extreme worryer and not proud of it. I take a travel carbon monoxide detector. What does that tell you? :scared:

Many hotels have roof top pools (paradise pier is another in that area). Typically it's on the building with the lobby, not over the top of rooms. But, really, its not unsafe. How often do you hear news reports of pools in hotels or apartments crashing down? But, you dont really want to stay at the carousel anyway. Check out the reviews on trip advisor. Not great. YOu have many other good hotels to choose from.

If you are that big a worrier, do yourself a favor and pay the price to stay at GCH. I used to live in LA, got real bumped around in the Northridge earthquake and am absolutely convinced that the GCH (because it is newer) is the only hotel engineered well enough to do well in a big quake. I have vague memories of hearing about damage to the DLH during the Northridge quake. I'm pretty sure that they did additional retrofitting to it afterwards, but we have stayed in it and it really feels flimsy.

When we stayed at GCH last week, I was amazed at how well they integrated earthquake safety into the design. For instance, there were many support beams that were really steel painted to look like the California Craftsman style wood. All of the doors were steel reinforced. I realized that they probably picked the craftsman style for the hotel on purpose, specifically because it made it so easy to camoflauge the quake safety design.

Now have I made you more nervous? You probably think I'm really neurotic. Not really, just jolted by that quake (and many smaller ones that I have gone through) into awareness.

Here's the weird thing... I'm less worried about Mother Nature than I am about unskilled or careless workmanship/caretakers etc. It seems like we are in a world where PEOPLE dont take the time to be careful or cautious sometimes. That is the kind of thing that makes me worry. I have learned to give control over to nature and higher powers... but not to my fellow man.
Again, nothing to be proud of, I know.

The CO detector is actually a very good idea. I just saw a report of a hotel last week that had a fatality due to CO.

PS not Disney

Take a flashlight, too. The night of the Northridge Quake, a lot of people in my industry from out of town were in hotels for an awards show. Many of them had to evacuate dark hotels when the quake struck at 4:31AM.
