Does anyone know the name of the letter embossing set from Making Memories? I think you use a hammer to "tap" the letter die to create the embossed image of the letter.

I was looking at the scrapping stuff on Oriental Trading Company's Web site after reading about paper storage on a Yahoo list. Anyway, they're selling what looks like the MM kit for $10. I could be wrong, but I thought it was pretty expensive at Mikes & ACM....like $20 or $30??

I was going to do a quick look-up but couldn't find it with the search terms I was using. I couldn't even see it on MM's site. Maybe they've discontinued it?

Any info greatly appreciated!

sorry I don't know the answer to your question but my neighbor just got the OT catlalog with all the scrapping stuff in it. Did you just drool over that great paper storge unit!!!!!!! It is a must have! My birthday can't come soon enough for that!

Deb, I couldn't find what you were looking at in Oriental Trading, can you post a link to it?

Well as long as I'm enabling... :teeth:

Check out the stamps section for their alphabets. I especially liked the one with "loopy" in its name...and it's only $10! I'm trying hard not to order, but I just might cave in! ;)

In reading this thread I just realized I haven't gotten an Oriental Trading catalog in about 2 years! At least since DS's were in their intermediate (gr3-5) school. I didn't know they carry scrapping stuff. Now there is another website for me to try and stay away from ;) And Deb, I do remeber seeing that alphabet set in AC Moore, I don't remember the price, but I think it was a lot more than $10.

it kind of 'stamp' the letter onto the paper?
Hw would u use it? Would u ink over it..looks cool...oh no!
I bet I could use those ebay chalk sets I got...... :smooth:

Sorry - I was talking about 2 different alphas. The first one that I was asking about is the one that is a metal "die"? that you tap with a hammer to emboss it into the paper. I've looked at those every time I'm at Mikes in the eyelet/brad area. Not having a Sizzix/Sizzlet alpha I'm always looking at ways to get letters on my pages w/o having to print....especially now that my printer died. :(

The second one that I called a "stamp" is just a set of rubber stamps. I was just surprised at the price...I don't think I've found a set of alpha stamps for $10 before! If I order them I'll use them with ink & Versa-Mark to heat emboss mostly I guess.

I was just looking at the stuff again trying to decide. I could probably spend that much easily, but I won't. Their shipping is high, but I'm not willing to spend $40 to save $3. :rotfl: Although I did call my sister to try to convince her she needed stuff so we could split the shipping. ;) She wasn't biting though. :rotfl:

Piratesmate,

I think that the tool that you are talking about is called a Stamping Die Set. It has interchangeable alphabet dies that you put into this little "setter" thing and you hammer it? I have thought about buying one of those but the letters are so small, I don't know how much use I would get out of it. I was mostly going to use it for dates and stuff, so I just bought the Making Memories Magnetic Date Stamp instead.

I found the tool here:
Making Memories Stamping Die Set

You can buy something very similar (usually for a lot less) at tool stores like Harbor Freight Tools or Northern Tool and Equipment.

Thanks! That was it. I knew it was very small.
