What's the scoop with tickets available via craigslist, etc? Anyone know?

Hi everyone,

Been reading this board for some time, great info on where to stay, snacks, and other tips. One thing I haven't seen come up in a while though is the story on the tickets I always see advertised via places like craigslist...

There appear to be two types that show up, ones from individuals who bought longer passes than they meant to and/or couldn't use the remainder of the days, and those that say to email with dates you are looking for. Are these (particularly the latter type) legit or something shady?? I can't figure out if they are middlemen who are willing to take a smaller cut with the ticket price or if they are fraudulent. The ones where someone can't use the whole thing seem more legitimate, but still I wonder if they can actually transfer like that.

The tickets seem to be by far the most expensive part of the trip; there are tons of hotel and other deals to be had, but the tickets seem to be only slightly discounted through various programs. Anyone with experience getting a bigger discount via craigslist or similar? I don't want to do it if it's some crazy illegal thing!

Welcome to DIS.

Technically.... mullti-day tickets are non-transferable. What you do with that is completely up to you.

As you noted, Disneyland tickets are very rarely sold "officially" at a discounted price. There are some here who know of various offers and I am sure they will post.

The whole thing is shady. Park hoppers are nontransferable. So even if someone bought hoppers and can't use all the days, they cannot legally sell those days to someone else. You would have no way of even verifying if the tickets are still valid.

Right now you can get multi day park hoppers with adults pay the child's price.

I agree. Just not a good idea to deal with these people. For one you will have no way of knowing if the tickets you have are still valid for your visit and there have been people who have said CM's have asked what day they first used their ticket. It just smells like trouble to me.

it sounds like the random "call us with the dates you need" operators are more sketchy.

If anything, perhaps the common messages of "anyone want to split 6 day park hoppers with another family of 4 over spring break" etc might work (3 days each), but even then, you'd probably want to be the *first* family to use it and already have split the cost. I suppose if it's another family from school or the neighborhood that we trusted that would work...

Thanks!

But you could still get into trouble; or at least the second family runs the chance (and you if you're "told on"). If the CMs at the ticket booth thing something's hinky, they can ask many questions about the first time used, what parks you went to when, etc. You'd need to take notes and tell the other family everything you ddi, park entry/leaving wise, just in case they are questioned.

Compared to what you get, compared to, say, a state fair (where you pay to get in then pay to partake in every little thing), the cost is low, IMO. And the longer you're there, the relatively cheaper the tickets get, and you get to know the park better and can do more...
