What's the protocol on cancelling ADR's?

So, if I have an ADR and I miss it or decide to eat somewhere else that day, what do I do about cancelling? Do I need to cancel or will they only hold the table for x amount of time? I don't want to be a hog with the ADR's, but I want to make at least dinner reservations every day so I know I have somewhere to eat. (do they let you make two different dinner ADR's for the same day?) I'm just worried that with my 15 month old DS, things won't go as planned and we'll end up halfway across WDW when we need to be somewhere for dinner and we'll miss the ADR. Is it OK to skip them or rude? Just checking!

When I need to cancel an adr I always call wdw-dine and let them know, even if it is close to the seating time. I figure that my call frees the table for someone else who might like to eat there. I just use my cell to call from the parks. It only takes a few minutes, and I have always been thanked for letting them know.

During our last trip, we changed our minds about one of our meals. I called WDW Dining from our room and canceled that morning.

For this trip I just completed rearranging our schedule and called WDW Dining and requested the change. It was no problem rescheduling and I was able to acquire the same time on different days for two ADR's and was given new confirmation numbers.

You have a 15 minute window with ADRs. Meaning if you are more then 15 minutes late to check in, you lose your ADR (though some places will let you in later if they are not busy). So they wont hold your ADR forever.

If we are running late or change our minds we always try to call. But sometimes the hold time on the Disney Dinning is SO long, and I am not spending an hour or more on hold (in my hotel room or on my cell phone). Any guests services place can make/cancel ADRs also. So if we have an ADR in Epcot, but are still in the MK & wont make it, we will stop at City Hall & ask them to cancel our ADRs for us.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if they will let you make two dinner ADR's for the same day? (e.g. one in MK and one in Epcot) I guess that's cheating, but I thought I'd check anyway!

I asked that a few days ago and the answer was yes, you can book two ADR's for dif restaurants at the same time slot. Also, some of the restaurants require 24 - 48 cancellation, such as Cali Grill and Hoop Dee Doo. They take your credit card number upon you making the ADR for those.

Cool. Since we'll be traveling with my 15 month old son, I know we'll have to be flexible about our plans and I'd hate to have to wait hours for dinner because we missed an ADR. Maybe I'll make an extra ADR for the days I'm not sure of yet and I can always cancel when we get closer to the trip or even when we're there. I guess you could say I'm doing non-planners a favor!! :scratchin
