Whats the point of...

It drives my crazy everytime we have a linked ressie, the front desk ALWAYS wants us to come check out and wait til 4:00pm to get another room once when the first linked is over. Whats the point of waitlisting or adding a night if you are going to have to check out anyways, because its a "Different" ressie? Doesn't make much sense. Does this happen to others?

If you're at the same resort, same room size and same room class (view), there should be no need to check out and check back in again. That's the whole point of linking the reservations. The linking is supposed to ensure a seamless transition from one stay to the next. You should be able to stay in the same room, have one set of keys and only have to complete the check-in process once.

If both reservations are truly for identical rooms and MS properly linked them, the front desk should not be making you depart and check-in again. Next be more persistent and try to get to the bottom of things.

Our last trip we had 3 ressies pieced together and linked. We did not have to check in and out again. Oh - and actually we moved to VB and had another linked reservation and again we did not have to check in or out and nothing was even said about it.

I'm curious - What property is this happening at? When you check in are you verifying that they have you checking out on the last day of your linked reservation and not at the end of the first?

Nope...this seems to be only you. I've had several ressies before at the same resort and room size and NEVER had to checkout. Only thing you have to do is get a new parking pass (if you have a car)

Nope...we didn't even have to do that! Never had a problem with linked reservations. Check-in once and all done!

I think every resort can get a litch in the reservation linking system from time to time. I've never had a problem at a DVC resort, but I did have those issues at POP on one visit, though we did get to keep the room, we had to check-out and check back in. It may be a matter of how the booking CM actually enters the change/extension to the reservation into the computer.

Am I reading this right? You changed resorts (to VB) and kept the same continuous reservation?

Nope, the "and we moved to VB and had another linked reservation" meant we had linked reservations there as well. The first linked reservations were at AKV and there were 3 separate that combined to make the single stay.

Are you sure about that one? You always have to check out and check into a new resort or new type of accomodation. You can only link reservations that are exactly alike and booked through MS. DRC reservations can't be linked. So you have to check out and check back in on those.

I'm sure it was the way it was - not the way you read it. See my other post just before yours. 3 linked ressies at AKV that did not require us to check in and out. Then 2 linked ressies at VB that did not require us to check in and out there either. We had to check in at AKV 1 time and at VB 1 time.

Now one time I added a night with an AP rate, that could not be linked and I had to go to the front desk in the morning and get new key cards and a new parking pass.

Are you sure the 2 reservations are the same room type? For example, if you switch from a lockoff to a dedicated, you would have to check-out and get a new room.

I know thats what I always thought. This has happened atleast 3 times that I can remember. One at AKV, once at SSR when my sister and her family were with us (4 year old and 2 year old) and the latest at VWL. The reason I even started this thread is because we had a wailtist night come through for AKV for the first night and its its own ressie on our upcoming trip details and I just know they are going to do it again even though I called today to make sure they were linked. Which that is what they ALWAYS tell me. " Oh yes its linked you won't have any problems"

This is actually a little crazy I am the only one and its happened more then once. 1 time I actually moved and the other I finally flat out refused to do it. But I still had to go wait in line in the morning and checkout and check back in on two different trips.
