In the September Intineraries thread, someone mentions that the school systems "there" have a new school holiday that 3rd week in September and felt that LOTS of people would be going to WDW then. I can't fathom what that holiday might be... anyone know?

Typically that is the time of year for some of the Jewish high holy days like Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana.

Rosh Hashanah is Oct 4 & 5. Yom Yippur is the Oct 13 this year.

A lot of southern schools take a fall break because they start so early in August now. Our local schools in AL start the second week of aug and have a week break in Oct- usually the 2nd week. 3rd week in Sept seems a little early for a fall break, but I don't know when the start.

Labor day is the only holiday in Sept for us. Jewish Holidays are in Oct this year.

There are a few school systems who have a year-round schedule. School runs 10 weeks, then a two week holiday, 4 "quarters" per year. I think year round school schedules might break in September- then they would be in alignment to break again at Christmastime. Here in Union County, NC, we have one "pilot program" year round elementary school. I think their schedule follows this pattern.

I have no idea about which schools are out that week. It's the week that I am going. I was sort of hoping all of the schools would be in session...that's why I picked that week....right after school started and right before fall break. But there can't be too many schools out that week. Not many people are familiar with schools being out that week. :sunny:

We don't have any September holidays other than Labor Day in the District I teach in. Where can I sign Up for this one???;)

Ok, trying this again because I typed out a whole response but it's lost somewhere. LOL

We have a weird schedule here and I think there are districs moving to these types of schedules but I hope not enough to make a difference at WDW. :rotfl: The reason for the weird schedule is to have a shorter summer and more short breaks throughout the year.

The kids get out June 10th and then they go back on August 1st. They have a fall break near the end of Sept but it's not associated with any holiday, just a school break. Then they have Christmas, I mean, "winter" break. Then an extra week off in January. They get two weeks off for Spring break and then get out for summer again in mid June.

It's actually really, really nice and one of the main reasons I don't want to move even though we really should. LOL I don't want to give up my prime vacation time in Sept and January!! A shorter summer isn't all bad either.. ;)

We are planning a September trip and REALLY hoping there won't be any crowds this year. We've never been at this time so I am hoping it will be our new favorite time to visit.
