What's the most days you would take your child out of school

I think the amount of time you take your kids out of school for vacation depends on your kids' ability to catch up, whether the teacher/s are cooperative with homework, and the grade the child is in.

My 8th grader will miss 1 day of school for our upcoming WDW vacation. I really try to avoid pulling her out of school for anything at all. I try to schedule her orthodontist appointments after school - but, if she misses anything, it is orchestra. She can always practice at home for me :goodvibes

I took my kids out for 11 school days when they were in 4th & 6th grade. That was the longest I ever have and don't see me doing it again in the future. In fact for the most part, other then the school Band trip in May '07 I don't see my kids missing a single day to a Disney Trip in the future, they just can't miss any more school, it is too hard to make up the missed work/learning.

I'm taking my kids (kindergarten and seventh grade) out for 6 days next month. My husband just came home from Iraq and we couldn't schedule around school vacations due to his leave dates. Both schools have been very supportive and neither has given me a hard time. My son does great in school and it has never been a problem when we take him out for a few days every year. My youngest, however, does things at her own pace and I forsee in our future that we may have to start booking trips over school vacations for her. Not looking forward to the crowds at all after being spoiled by our January trips!

Totally agree....I took my kids out for 5 days this year and they are in 9th and 7th grade. The 9th grader was a little worried because she is an honor student and was worried about her grades, but since this trip included a cruise and we had never been on a cruise she wanted to go.

Both of my girls do well in school so the make up work really isn't that hard for them, but if they were struggling I wouldn't take them out of school.

It's getting harder and harder to pull them out of school and I don't think we'll do it for that long again since they are getting older.

I took my daughter out of kindergarten last January for a week (actually, just 4 days, one day was a teacher work-day), which I had no concerns about whatsoever (agreeing with all the posters above) . . .

Then she went back to school the next week . . .

Then the week after that she was out ALL WEEK sick.

So, within a span of 3 weeks, she was out for 2.

Obviously, I had no way of knowing that would happen. But it made me feel pretty bad about thinking it was okay to take her out for a week!

This January, she's only going to miss 2 days.

Still gotta go see the Mouse!

I'm taking my granddaughters (kdg and 2nd grade) out of school for 5 days in Feb. We don't go to WDW every year like so many do (our last trip was in 1998) and I have no idea when we'll be going back so I figured if I'm going to take them it had better be now.

My 16 y/o opted not to go because he said there's no way he's going to miss that much school. He's a junior and getting ready for SAT's so he decided to wait and go another time.

Actually, none of my kids ever missed school for vacations. We always took ours during the summer. In the last few years my husband and I have become accustomed to taking winter vacations to places much warmer than IL and we already had this planned when our DGD's came to live with us. At that point it became either take them out of school and go or stay home. Pixie Dust won out and while we changed some plans and shortened our trip considerably we're still going.

The most we've taken them out is 2 days and always looped it with an inservice break or holiday break.

Last May, I took DD11 & DS7 out for 6 school days to go to DisneyWorld.

This January, they'll only miss 4 for our trip (combining it with teacher workdays).

This May, they'll miss 5 for our annual May trip.

Can't wait!
