We are looking at going to Orlando for 6 mths. We are not sure if we will stay at the Fort or somewhere else. Or if we will split it between the Fort and another cheaper place.

I'm thinking I would like to stay at the Fort for a part of it for the bonus of buses and EMH.

How long before we get bored and want out of there ! Also are the campsites really close to each other ?

And where do you leave your dogs while at the parks ? If it's the Kennels how far are they from the campground ?

Wow 6 months is along time...good for you. If you can afford it I personally don't think you will get bored of FW as far as campgrounds go I don't think you can find a better one.
There is plenty to do in the campground, the movie and campfire, the pool, fireworks everynight, etc... I'm sure others will chime in on all the activities that they have to offer.
As far as the sites being close together my best advice is to take a look at the campsite sticky at the top of this forum, it will give you a pretty good insight on how close together the campsites are.
I don't think FW will let you stay 6 months in one campsite, I may be mistaken but that sure is along time. Have fun whatever you decide. :cloud9:

We've stayed Jan. & Feb. (6-8wks) a couple of times. When it was time to leave you had to drag me kicking, screaming, and almost crying out. We were never bored. Its a whole different Disney experience. There is no rush to get in all the rides and sights. The first week or so we'd get up early and hit the parks everyday. Then we got to the point of relaxing at our campsite drinking coffee and feeding the wildlife that would come up for breakfast. Ducks, squirrels, birds etc. Alot of days we spent poolside reading. We were in a park or riding Disney transportation almost everyday. One of our favorite things to do was to take the boat to the CR, jump on the monorail and ride it around several times without getting off.(I know, we are easily entertained!) We were in a loop with several other campers that were staying long term and its easy to become friends. Your dogs can stay with you in your RV. Request a pet loop. When we would leave our dogs alone, we would turn on the radio for background noise--you don't want them barking when they hear other guests. You will be able to see your neighbors....not alot of privacy. Good luck with whatever you decide!

My longest stay is 2 weeks wish it could be more but mine and DW's jobs just wont let us have anymore time off at one time. If you have bikes or a golf cart there is always something to do at FW if you go have fun.

forgive me for being noisey, but how can you go to FW for 6mths. Are you retired empty nesters? Sound like a wonderful trip you are planning.

We spent 4 months at FtW the winter of 02-03 & then 3 months the winter of 03-04. Did I get sick of it? NEVER! If you can afford it, then I say, do it! There's no better place to be!

We are making our plans for when the boys graduate. The month after they graduate we are leaving for a year. We are taking our youngest who will be 8 at the time and plan to homeschool her for the yr.

We think we will spend 2 mths at the Fort, 2 mths at another one and then 2 mths at the Fort again.

Something interesting my parents found out during our last trip might make it more interesting. They were talking to several CM's while there and Disney hires a lot of "snowbirds" part time (or just what ever they want to work). My parents have been considering it once my mom retires. I think it would be really interesting, though I'm sure it doesn't pay much.

When I was younger, we used to stay for much longer than we do now (of course it was also much cheaper back then as well). We would stay for 2-3 weeks at at time during the summer. Probably the longest we ever stayed was about 3 weeks.

I do know that one day, I'm going to spend a whole month at the Fort. Just gotta get to that whole retirement thing first ;)

9 - 10 days is the longest. I'd love to spend 6 months, but oh, well. Unfortunately DW is not infatuated with WDW and also doesn't enjoy camping much. Sigh..........

My longest stay has been 14 days, and that will probably be my longest stay until I retire.

Then I'm shooting for a 6-month stay at least once!!!

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I don't think I would do an extended stay at FW. YES- I love it and we have a great time. BUT it's not the kind of *camping* I like to do. I'd want a bigger, grassy site and the ability to have a real campfire at my own site. Someplace quiet and laid back.

If I was going to stay in one site for 3-6 months and not *camp* I would just rent a condo. :confused3

We dream about becoming snowbirds when the kids are grown and on their own. We'd head down after the Christmas holidays (so we could spend them with our family) and come back home in April. We'd probably spend a couple of weeks each in Myrtle Beach, St. Augustine, the Orlando Area, Clearwater, Key West and some time in TX too. :thumbsup2

Not that I've really given this much thought ;)

You won't get bored, but don't be surrounded 24/7 there's a lot of things orlando can offer even to the nature lover. Remember the beach on either coast is only an hour or so away.

There are several snow bird cast members. Just go to the big orange building across from DTD that says CASTING in gold letters. There's a sheet with current pay rates for different types of entry level positions. Now for a seasonal cast member you do have to meet 40 hours a years min and there is a maximun hour you can work before they say become part time or don't work, and the perks help out too. But I'd suggest buying an annual pass for the others.
Dogs are only allowed if it's a full hard sided camper/RV, no pop up screen trailors, and air conditioning. It gets way too hot.

Now if you have enough money to stay in orlando that long, there's a million other things to do too. I would love to go see American history, like going through the original 13 states and to the historic colonial places, and traveling through the mountains. But I guess every kid needs a vacation too, and better to do the fun stuff during the off season when it's cheaper.
