We are expected at the Fort this Thursday. We were gonna get the kids out of school at around 1 and head over for arrival by 3 or 4.

Just got a call from DS's T-ball coach that first pratice is Thurday night at 6 PM!:sad2: Assuming the practice lasts till 8, with padding for unexpected stuff, we may not arrive till 11 PM! (There goes my plans for a drink at Crockett's Thursday night!)

Now I'm worried about backing in our 30ft TT in the dark and setting up so late.

I would recommend bringing a couple of extra flashlights, lanterns or glow sticks that you can place along the edge of your pad to aide with backing. Three should be enough. You might want to fax a request for an inside site also, that way the pad will be on the driver's side and more visible. As far as setup, when I arrive somewhere late I just back in and plug in... the rest can wait till morning! HIH

Latest that I have arrived is 2:30AM. We have a 32 footer. I called in the afternoon and mentioned that I would be arriving late and asked for an easy to get into spot. Back it in first time..no problems. Slid out the slide, plugged in power, water and everyone went to bed...except me, cracked open a frosty one and relaxed at the picnic table for an hour or so. So much better to wake up in Disney!!!!

BTW We made every effort to keep it as quiet as possible...we finished setting up in the am.

My Latest was on Mothers Day 2005. We would have been at the Fort at about 5:30pm but a very bad accident 42 miles from Orlando shut down I-4. By the time we got to turn around and went down to the B-line it was 11:00pm when we arrived.

I've arrived at 2amish a couple of times.

First time was tent camping, just quietly set up with a headlamp.

2nd time was with the camper. Fortunately, I can just push mine into place. Also quietly set up with a headlamp.

We arrived at 1:00 am. a few years back on the day that we were going to check in, It was to early to register, I guess cro don't release that day's res. untill after 6:00am. so we spent the night (what was left of it) in the over flow area. And may I add slept like a baby and had no problem, But I do know that the fort dosent like you to do that so plan accordingly on your arrival time.

When we get there in March, we'll probably be checking in after 11PM...won't be the first time I set up in the dark.

This may sound selfish, but I would skip T-ball personally. I know it's the 1st practice but it's not like he's going to be doing a rigerous workout. Just MHO.

Its his FIRST first practice. He's never played before. He's very nervous about it. I thought it was going to start next week.

We usually arrive after dark. The latest being well after 2:00 AM. Had to wait for the computers to reset so they could check us in. We have a 30' Airstream and a diesel truck. We tried to be quiet...honest!

I can understand that. I used to coach little league when my stepson played ball. We had a lot of people not show up those 1st practices and we found a way to work that out when they came the next time. Maybe you can talk to the coach and see how he feels if you missed. I just know from my experience we want to get there as early as possible to spend all the time we've got lol.

I am not sure whether to push hard and get to the Fort late or stop in Georgia and then be to the Fort around noon the next day. I have mixed feelings on it. I really prefer to just get there and wake up in the Fort but I worry about arriving after dark. I also wonder whether it is worth the money just to sleep when I can get a KOA site for $30 in GA. Any thoughts?

I would stop and then enjoy all the days you're paying for!

I don't know which way you're traeling, but we leave Atlanta in the early afternoon and stop in Lake City FL at the In and Out RV Park where I-75 intersects US 90. There are all sorts of fast food places close and even a WalMart. That puts us about 150 miles from WDW to arrive there in mid morning. We gavce up that late arrival stuff several years ago.

My thought would be if you are only an hour or so from the fort is to have one of you take the TT over to The Fort and set up (there is always someone who could help you back in) an go back and pick everyone else up after the practice or just drive a second vehicle over and park in the overflow. Just my thought.:drive:

We are about 2 hours away. I did already think of that, but DH isn't going for it:sad2:

Mostly, it is a matter of how comfortable you are backing in and setting up after dark. We do a lot of local weekend trips and weekend trips to the beach 6 hours away where we leave as soon as I get home from work or as soon as my wife and kids get home from school on Friday afternoon so we are used to towing in the dark (and rain after dark) and backing in late at night and doing a partial set up like Shan Man described so for us to arrive at the Fort after dark, or even in the middle of the night is no biggie.

It is really up to you and how comfortable you are with it. If others are really counting on you being there on Thursday, you have to weigh how much you are expected and what difference it would make if you arrive on Friday.

Good news! Coach just called, practice is cancelled due to cold temperatures expected tomorrow night!

We'll be picking up the kiddos from school, dropping them off at Grandma's and enjoying a beverge at Crockett's by nightfall!
