At one point I read that the refillable mugs at the resorts had gone to bar-codeing--has it happened as yet. Just wondering if it also applies to the coffee and hot water---I'm a tea drinker!

The reply I got from WDW was that "the rumor was just that, a rumor". There will be no bar coding system going into effect at the resorts. Im not saying there wont be, but that what I was told.
The CM also said while the "official official(said sarcastically) thing(yes she said thing, not policy)", is that they are good for the length of stay only, the unofficial policy of the resorts is if the guest has a mug, it can be refilled. So, from her answer I got that somewhere in the big wig offices, the rule is length of stay only, but the resorts have made their own rules.

So, from the message I recieved it sounds like nothing has or is going to change in the resorts.

I'm also a tea drinker... from reading the boards, the refills apply to everything except milk and juice from what I can figure out on other threads, the bar coding applys only to BB, not yet implimentated at resorts... and supposedly it's a rumor, they are not going to barcode at the resorts...

But I guess, it's like the weather, listen to a different station and you get a different weather report...

I'll just wait and see what happens when I get down there. Things like refills aren't going to make me crazy yet (at least I hope!!):)

We just got back from Wilderness Lodge. No bar coding, but there was at Blizzard beach.
Could have sodas, coffee, ice tea, lemonade, hot tea and hot chocolate (bags from cashier)

No bar coding at CBR. No hot chocolate either.

I wonder if hot chocolate is a "seasonal" thing. Maybe it will reappear when the weather isn't so hot and muggy. I remember seeing it last November at ASSp.

Actually, saw some kids drinking it. Yikes! It was hot. Kinda funny but that water and iced tea was sure good.

The system at the POR food court had a kind of security tag on the mug which they cut off when you purchase them. After that it was a free for all. I saw older mugs being used and there didn't seem to be anyone checking for that or monitoring the drink fountains. There is definitely not tight security on mug refills. Seemed to be mostly honor system or they just felt that the bright yellow security tags were sufficient enough for their purposes.

The mugs could be used for coffee, soft drinks, water, hot chocolate, and they even had tea bags! Just couldn't be used for juice or milk. I guess I can understand that but my kids need their milk! But we had groceries and rented a refrigerator for that.

Hope this helps. Have a magical time!

I was told by Wendy at the WDW Exec Offices that the bar coding on the mugs are just a rumor......she said it is a rumor that has spread rapidly and they are not adding any bar codes to the mugs and they are having the same mugs/policies that they have had in the past.....Have a GREAT day! :)

Just back from BWI and they were out of mugs when we got there. A few days later a new shipment came in with NO bar code on them......

That yellow tag you see on the mugs only tells the cashier that you are buying a new mug and must be charged for it. Once you pay for it, the yellow tag is cut off. It has nothing to do with the ability to use the refill stations.

GoldenOldie: Yes, I knew that. That was the point I was trying to make, along with the use of older model mugs. Once the yellow tags come off, there isn't much checking at the fountain stations.

Just wanted to point out that they seemed far from bar coding and the yellow tags was the extent of "security." So, from what I could see, mugs from past years were perfectly acceptable.
