What's the latest I can cancel a ressie?

We have three rooms reserved for June 9-21st but some of our party may not be able to stay the full time we have booked. When do I need to cancel by to keep my points from going into the holding account or whatever it is? Also, we had to borrow about 68 points from 2003 for part of the trip. If I cancel part how will they handle the points? Will they put 2002 points back in the system or will it be the 2003 points? Thanks for the help.

Loribell, You must cancel ressies at least 31 days prior to avoid holding account status. I believe you could request that they use your borrowed 2003 points fo the reservation and then you could bank your leftover 2002 points into 2003. * provided it is still within your banking window.

The thing to be clear about is that YOU CAN NOT UNBANK OR UNBORROW POINTS. Once they are brought into a use year, they can not be returned.

The best you can do is what Kem330 suggests. Make sure they use the borrowed points for the reservation amd then you can bank the freed up current year's points. Its not actually getting you back to where you were had you not made the reservation and borrowed the points, but it is as close as you can get.

Remember to try to firm up your entire party's stay prior to the 31 day deadline. At 30 days or less the points go into the holding account

And if you cancel or change any part of your reservation on the day of checkin or later, any points then are lost completely. So don't go with your guests having the full 11 days reservation and thinking they could check out early and you'd get the the points back and put into the holding account. No, in this case you'd lose them completely.

Thanks for the replies. I will make sure I tell MS to use the borrowed points and then decide if I want to bank the points or try to take an extra trip later in the year. And I will definitely make sure all reservations are firm before the 31 day period. I think I'll tell them I have to know for sure 60 days out. You guys are great, thanks again for the help.

You might also look at where you are in your banking deadlines and what percentage 68 points is of your total. This might come into play if you are approaching the end of your banking deadlines.

Thanks Pam. My use year is March and I have 240 points so I think I'm okay with both of those. But if not I could always FORCE myself to take an extra trip. LOL!
