Looks like it left CC last night, started heading north west, did several donuts overnight, and now headed back to CC? Maybe picking up all non-essential personnel from the island before hoofing it back to PC?

Or I don't watch enough and that's their normal path :) But when we were on the Dream last year, seems we headed back north, not southEast for our trip back.

Could have something to do with hurricane Irma since she's heading back to PC tomorrow instead of Friday.

^^^ This. They altered current DREAM and FANTASY itineraries and are returning to port ahead of Irma.

I did see they are headed back early, didn't look close enough at the location for the next port. :) They are going in the reverse of what we did last fall (Nassau then CC, not CC then Nassau). Still learning to read marinetraffic.com right

Noticed the Fantasy is just leaving Grand Cayman. They have quite a trek, if they want to make it to port on Thursday.

the disney dream seems to be just marking time in the water...they're doing their sea day apparently...
and then they'll head for port canaveral tonight...

The distance is so short from Nassau to castaway cay that the ships will sail out to sea and then literally just sail around for a while, back and forth in the transit lanes as needed. This occurs bad weather or not. Now that the decision has been made to offload all passengers, the ships will head to port canaveral. I would expect that non essential personnel would either shelter at a nearby island, or else one of the ships (likely the Dream on Friday) to pick up workers and any items on Castaway that they can safely store before heading further east.

when we were on castaway cay last week we had a nice conversation with the manager of the personnel who live there...
while he's from turkey, most of the personnel are local - they're from a nearby island...
so maybe they'll go home for the storm..
although this guy - i can't remember his name...a really really nice guy....he said that the hurricane shelters on the island are really good...
they've ridden out storms there before..
although i don't know about irma....with a hurricane of that magnitude i don't know if they'll leave anyone on the island..

I dunno about all that, but having been to the Bahamas and seen the homes and seen pictures from Matthew of the CC shelter, they may very well be safer in the shelter than going home to nearby islands. Also, sadly, Disney might be better equipped to rescue them from CC than the government of the Bahamas from their home Island after the storm.

yeah, you're probably right... :sad2:

At present, it looks likes the Dream is heading for Nassau, but personally I would apt for having the fireworks tonite and heading for PC tommorrow

Most all of the tour operators do not live on the island. Disney employees are maintenance, life guards, and animal care takers who are there full time tending to the beaches and structures. The hurricane last year that hit the island did a good job, and there were pictures from inside the bunker. It is a cinderblock looking building. The staff covered with mattresses and sheltered in place. Apparently the Island cat made it too, but it wasn't in the shelter.

i just looked at marine traffic...it appears that the disney dream is heading back to castaway cay...

it's hard to tell, but they're headed in that direction, and they've picked up speed...

maybe they're going there to pick people up? (like our nice turkish acquaintance whose name escapes me)..

on second thought, maybe she already picked him up when they were there yesterday?

it seems she's turning again...just doing big loops in the water, before heading back to PC...
