In April of 2002, I bought a pair of Maytag Performa Washer and Dryer.

Everything was fine, we moved with them fine and no problems.
Then back in July we noticed that the tub at the end of the cycle (before going to rinse) was not draining.

It was determined that a valve and a transmission needed to be replaced (mind you this was a unit barely a year old). 17 days later (a lot of time when you do two loads a day every day), a new transmission came in. After the transmission was installed, there was valve issue. After the valve issue, the agitator kept on coming off. All in all, it was at least 5 repairs to get this fairly new machine in operational mode.

Now, that is unacceptable. Maytag has a great reputation, and to have "the lonely Maytage repairman" come out 5 times in a few month period for the same machine is unbelievable.

So, we complained to Maytag. Basically, with repair costs involved, we technically paid for another washer. Maytag understood our position, and swapped out the Performa for another model.

The new model was installed two days ago. Its a nice machine, but only one cycle works. (normal cycle only, not delicate or perma press). This is not a Performa, but the model inbetween the Performa/and the higher end. Apparently, this "new" machine was either a rehab (and they didn't fix) or the repair guys broke when they installed it. (a valve issue).

So far we have had two broken Maytag washers! The one Maytage washer is only a few days old!

So now, we complained to Maytag yet again. They could either send the guys out again (do I want the people to fix it) or take the money and run.... We are taking the money and running!

NO!!!!
Thats what kind I just bought...
I did get the extended warranty though...:duck:
Hope you get a satisfying resolution...:(

I have had no problems with the dryer... just letting you know.

Basically I found out that the Performa is basically a ROPER (or some other lower end machine) that Maytag bought out.

Maytag basically bought this lower end, put their name on it, and added their warranty.

The machine was fine the first 14 months. Then all heck went loose!

Perfoma is a Roper?? ..
Them machines where priced at least $100 less... heck i think i could of got the set for what I paid for mine.. ..

The Roper/Performa thing is what the repairman told me... but again ,this is the same repair man who couldn't fix the washer after 5 times ! (So take that info for what its worth!)

The first year the machine was fine. After that it went downhill.

It's true that the Performa model isn't made by Maytag, at least that is what the salesman told us. We have had the Atlantis set for almost a year now without problems. Atlantis and Neptune are made by Maytag.

Actually, I think it's great the way Maytag has tried to resolve the problem. When we ran into problems with our Frigidaire side by side, Frigidaire turned their back on us. It didn't matter that the refrig was still under warranty, never again for us. I was so glad when we got rid of that thing!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce:

Hope you can find a washer soon!:sunny:

I have the Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer. I had it at my old house, it was new and I had it for a year with no problems. We sold that pair to my moms BF and he hasn't had a problem with them. We moved and I just bought the same pair again because we were so happy with them. So far so good. We also had a used Maytag upright washer/dryer unit and had no problems. Can you tell we like Maytag!! Anyway my mom has the Atlantis also and had a problem with the water not draining fully after the rinse cycle. If you're still having problems why not ask if you can upgrade and just pay the difference? Good luck. Being a mom who does laundry everyday I understand your frustration!

So I guess I have to live with my High End Roper..
Guess I should've stuck with Whirlpool...:(

Cindy. It sounds like the tag fairy needs to pay you a visit and change "Has a tricky oven" to "Has tricky appliances".

Hope you get everything worked out soon.

Cindy, I have a 3 yr. old Maytag washer and dryer, and the washer recently started leaking big time every time I washed a full load. Also last year the dryer started taking about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to dry each load. I had the "lonely" repairman come out (it took 11 days to get an appointment so he must not have been too lonely), but when he got here he said he needed to order 4 different parts for the washer. Here's the kicker--3 of the parts came in and the other part is on backorder until MARCH 7 from Maytag! I now have a washer that you can only wash very small loads at a time. So instead of the usual 10 loads of laundry a week, I have around 20-25. Needless to say, I am not happy. I don't think I would ever buy a Maytag again.

Oh no! And to think I just bought a Maytag, because I was tired of fooling with other brands and having to replace them so often...

Wow! I am sure glad you posted this!

My DH and I have been out looking at new *washers*(I don't want to say it out loud for fear she will break down today!)

We have looked at Maytags and whirlpool. I think we'll go with Whirlpool.

Sorry you had bad luck with that washer.

We had the maytag from hell

Repaired about 15 times in less then four years. Everythime I complained to the company they were like " Well did you buy the extended warrenty?" Why I asked you advertize they are the best !!!

One day after a week of complainig I hear a WOOSH...... ( we have the front load washer) and then I hear screams.... I look around and saw that the door blew open and hot water was pouring on my children in the basement, (Washer in in laundry room on main floor of our house). I scalled my bare feet trying to get to the beach towels on the shelf over the washer.

I callee Maytag ( gee at this point I think they were on my speed dial) and started saying this was it. I told them what happened and within 3 business days I had a brand new Maytag washer in my laundry room.

When this set goes, I will NEVER EVER buy a Maytag anything again.

Wow! I sure am glad we bought our Kenmore. We got the set in 1996 and have never had a problem. I went with them because my mom's set lasted nearly 20 years.

I hear you. We too had the Maytags from hell. We had Whirlpools and other brands over the years and basically had no big problems. Well, a few years ago we "went up" to Maytags. Always wanted them but never wanted to pay the price. My Mom always had them and loved them. Finally we bought a Maytag washer and dryer and thought we were buying the "king" of brands. Hated, hated, hated them. We had so many problems, wouldn't rinse at all, wouldn't rinse well, wouldn't dry well. Finally, after the "lonely" Maytag repairman was here so many times he knew my name, we called it quits and bought a Kenmore washer and dryer and have been very happy with them. Just my experience, but I would never buy another maytag again.

I was so upset over my maytag that I went searching on the internet to find out what to do. I came across this web page that had horror stories about maytag and the service they DID NOT PERFORM,

when this set dies I will also replace them with a Kenmore set. Had a kenmore set for years and years sold it with the last house and I am sure they are still working LOL.
