What's the deal w/ SSR?

We stayed at SSR in September after being upgraded when POP was overbooked for our dates.

SSR is a very elegant hotel. It was not something DH and I would have booked on our own because we're from NY and it looks a lot like all of the high end hotels here. I have stayed in Saratoga Springs upstate and the hotel was DEAD on when it comes to theme. I mean, if there were no palm trees around and it wasn't so hot, and I couldn't see DTD from my balcony I would have sworn I was still in NY.

With that said, we bought at SSR b/c the price was right, the resort is GORGEOUS, we loved how quiet it was, it felt like home.

Baylake doesn't really appeal to me b/c I"m not a fan of the contemporary/modern feel and style of the rooms. It actually makes me anxious. Does that mean I'll never stay there or that I don't like the resort? Not at all, it just means that they didn't design it with someone like me in mind.

I think that's the great thing about the DVC and Disney in general...that there is a resort for EVERYONE.

We have stayed at SSR several times and unfortunately have had really bad experiences every time and I mean REALLY bad We actually know the property manager by name and went back again after the worst experience to give it another shot. We have only had great experiences at BLT, AKV-Kidani, BWV, and BCV. That said - we do think it is a beautiful property! It is just the last place we will even think about booking. I wish I could love it - they just had a great promo while we were at DW and I really want (don't quite need yet ) some more points, but it was a SSR and I just couldn't do it. I wish I could say something better!

We love, love, love SSR! I happen to love the condo style set-up! It's a nice change from the interior hallway hotel set-up that can be found anywhere. I love coming back from the resorts to the peaceful atmosphere of the resort. I've stayed in the Paddock section twice now and it's my favorite, and will be even more so when they finish the new pool!

New pool? Is there a thread with details about this? I'd be interested to know what is planned there. I haven't stayed at SSR before because we rarely go to DTD. In fact, it might be downright dangerous for me to have close proximity to DTD since the Ghirardelli store would have my name written ALLLLLL over it. "Evey's Ghirardelli" has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

I have to say I do have more of an appreciation of SSR after staying there last year. Is it my favourite, no.... would I return, definitely. The resort isn't really my style but that's the great thing about Disney/DVC they make various stylings that appeal to different folks. Even amongst the group of 7 of us on our last vacation we each had our favourite... SSR converted hubby and I to like it more than we had before arriving, AKV converted my hubby as he reluctantly agreed to stay there... my brother simply fell in love with the resort and didn't want to leave. Then BLT hands down became my nieces favourite and she asked us to bring her back there withint 20 minutes of checking in.
