Thinking about going the 1st week in Dec. 2002 - anyone think there may be 2 bedroom openings for the 7 month window then?

This is just about the toughest time to get in BWV at the seven month window. The standard recomendation is to have back up reservations at your home resort, try and make the reservations at the seven month mark, and get on the waiting list if it is open.

You do have a shot, but definitely not a guarantee.

Hi,
I am new to this but 1st week (in fact 1st 2 weeks) of december are considered Adventure season - which means you use the least amount of points - My money says you will get in.

good luck

Sorry, but the least amount of points is exactly why it is the most difficult season to try at the seven month window.

Standard view units go first at any time of year, why? Because they are the lower point units.

The lowest point seasons tend to fill the fastest and be the most difficult to get into at seven months. The original poster would have a MUCH better chance of getting in during July than the first two weeks of December.

There is always a chance, but I think it is a VERY slim chance for those first two weeks of December.

Like another poster suggestd have a back up. Our home resort is the BWV but we prefer the WLV during Dec and the BWV in the summer so I'm booking the BWV at the 11 month window. At 7 monthes I will call MS and check on the WLV, if nothings available I will waitlist for the entire stay at the WLV. Doing this I'm at least sure I have my room at the BWV and if the waitlist comes through for the WLV then that much better!

It's hard to say with everything going on, the economy and the war. Boardwalk was booked up early for the first week of December this year, long before 7 months, but there ended up being cancellations after everything happened. At the end of November, Travelocity had studios & 1 bedrooms at BWV for the first week of Dec with a 40% discount. We were there Dec 1 to 7 and it was very quiet. People may not book as fast for next year. I would do as the other suggest, make a reservation at your home resort and then try to change at 7 months. I would call day by day at your 7 month mark. Good Luck!

For the last three years, we have routinely booked this time period... Each year the Boardwalk units are booked by 10.5 months... That's right... last year the first 2 weeks at BW were booked just 2 weeks after the opening of the 11 month window... Since we were using OKW points this time around, we could not get into BW at all... We just got back a week or so ago & OKW was nice, so my advice would be to expect to get into OKW, but don't expect to get into BW.... At 7 months, call, get your name on the waitlist & hope for the best....

When I look on the rent/trade board, or on EBAY and see that members are booking these weeks for selling purposes, kinda irks me. For example, here is a DVC member who will have to compete with another DVC member who has chosen to sell points at a time when a lot of people like to go. Too bad that we, as DVC members, could not all get together and try to sell points AFTER the 7 month booking period..

We always loved WL at Christmas. We went the first 2 weeks long before DVC. We bought at VWL just for this reason. However, there will come a day that we may want to experience OKW or BWV at Christmas, and there will be a chance that we will not be able to do this. Food for thought.....

Hi Muushka,

I won't flame you, but... this comes up quite a bit, and I look at it this way... DVC is certainly one of the most flexible Timeshares in the industry, it's that flexibility that led many of us to buy in.... Unfortunately, it's that very same flexibility that leads to what you've said. People scheduling popular weeks for the sole purpose to rent/sell or give them out... But, as owners they have as much right to do that as I do to schedule my own families vacation... I don't like it of course, but, without the flexibility DVC offers, I'm sure we wouldn't have bought in... so I try to take it all with a grain of salt... and I call day by day to book my villa for the popular times! I'll be on the phone tomorrow morning 9am to continue booking our Standard view Boardwalk villa!!!

Hi chris1gill

Thanks for the non-flaming! Yes, you are correct about the positive/negative about DVC flexibility. I agree. And I also call day by day for that first 2 week time slot!

I'll bet that if I ever want to stay at either of the other 2 sites, some nice DVC member would be willing to help me out for a trade or something. I will focus on the nice people that belong!

Contrarily, Muushka, as BWV owners we probably would not be afforded the opportunity to stay at VWL at Xmas.:(:(:(

I agree with Chris1; DVC's inherent flexibility adds to its attraction in spite of the rental incentive pursued by some owners. It's called................CAPITALISM:) .I have never offered points for rent........but not because I'm a "saintly" person. I DO expect other members to conduct themselves within the DVC regulations, but I DO NOT feel that I can set expectations about their use or sale of points. JMHO.

Happy Holidays,

Hi Muushka,

You're probably right, the best way to ensure you can stay at BW during those two weeks would be to exchange points ahead of time with a BW owner...

Here's an interesting twist though LOL... This year I booked OKW at the 11 month mark (we own at both).. at exactly the 7 month mark I started booking day by day to stay at VWL... I was able to complete the task for all 12 nights (day by day....)

Then in September I visited the VWL & found I liked OKW better & I was able to switch back to OKW (I found the dark wood in the Villa's to be a bit more dark than I like)....

Anyways, there were two principals in play here... FIRST, if you ever want to book a DVC resort for a busy time, try it the first year the resort is in operation... This is true, primarily, because people that bought in in the first year have A. already had their vacation & B. used the Magical Beginnings program, so they have no points... I guarantee from here forward you won't be able to get 12 nights at VWL for early December!!! The second principal here is OKW Mass... it's a huge resort... and 3 months before a very busy time, I was able to re-book it... Just thought I'd share this years experience.... But do remember booking a new resort is easiest the first year... BCV's are coming online soon, so, I'm not sure if I'll change next years holiday plans, although I lean very heavily towards staying at BWV's, I love them!

Or maybe someday they'll bring back the Special Seasons List. ;)
