"What's the Catch - Do I Not Get Bacon?" - 11/27 - TR started!

What? Really? I linked my UT tix and plan to upgrade to AP after we activate them in the park. I hope we don't lose our discount....

I asked Cheshire Figment and he said he wasn't sure and I don't want to risk it. I am mainly going to the parks for just a few hours in the mornings so I shouldn't really have a big need for FP anyways and will just pull regular FP if I can't schedule anything with FP+ when we get there.

Congrats on the MB's Wendy. I swear the testing phase is never going to end. I want one for my AP, but I don't think that'll happen until the testing is over. And honestly, I really can't see a full roll-out until the Xmas season is over. Too risky I think.

Yeah, I believe FP+ is one park per day. Hopefully that changes.

The rumour during the testing (assuming this is still a test period) is that you can still pull regular FP with KTTW cards and the like. I've even heard OLD cards will work, so if you have so old room keys laying around, you may want to bring 'em.

Awesome step by step Wendy. Really enlightening as to how it will all work. Kudos!!

And, as always, thank you for the wonderful photography tips. I always turn the flash off during the day. Who knew? Well you knew, but, ya know...

OH, I had no idea that would even be a possibility. I thought that the tickets were not "really activated" until you walk through the park. So be it, if they are its not that big of a loss. Probably $15-20$ person on the difference from what I paid and what they are worth now. Not even sure, so what's done is done. I am still planning to upgrade to an AP no matter what because we are going again in March.

I have tickets that I bought from UT that I linked to my MDE and I am ordering Magic Bands. But, since I do have the physical paper tickets - is that what you are talking about possibly still being able to use them at the old FP stations? I am definitely bringing the tickets with me anyways.

I hope FP+ works for you this time around! I really hope I can utilize it for our Feb trip! I adored it last time. Not sure how I feel about potentially not being able to pull regular FPs but... a guaranteed spot on my favorite rides at a time of my choosing? I think that's awesome.

Interesting. I don't think my camera has a fill flash - or does it? Where do I look for that option?

I just customized my magic bands. I made one of them say RIP Max!

I did not know you couldn't pull other FP's. I like the FP plus option but it bothers me that if I only want one FP at say MK for the morning and I want two in the evening for Epcot, I can't do that. Boo!

Plus, my traveling partners do not have tickets purchased yet so I can't do a thing with FP+ at the end of my trip.

To be honest, I'm not sure if that would work or not. I haven't had the opportunity to try it myself, but I've heard that the Key to World cards, even old ones, were working in the FP machines. But actual tickets may be working too. I imagine it's just a glitch during the testing phase that will be plugged once everything finally rolls out. But I would totally bring the tickets with you. It certainly can't hurt to try. :thumbsup2

look at you with the exciting stuff happening! Magic bands, FP+ and BOG, oh my! (ugh, that was beyond cheesy)

Right now there isn't an option for park-hopping-FPs. You get to choose one park to have 3 FPs at. If they're going to limit it to 3, I'd at least like to see them allow 3 for the day and at a combination of parks should you so choose.
I totally agree, there's almost no point to getting park hoppers if it's going to be that restricting!

And you are so ahead of the game with packing - granted, if you change over your closets, then it just makes sense to put the summer clothes into the suitcase instead of storage and then suitcase.

I finally got serious about packing last night. Oy.
Well it's about time! :rotfl2: And speaking of that, have a great trip!

Yeah for the MB!! As of right now I've heard you can use the MB for FP+ and then can use your KTTW card to pull regular FP's. Once the full system rolls out though that is probably not possible!

I'm not able to select FP+ yet as I don't want to try and link my UT tickets before we upgrade them in fear I will lose my discount!
I have to say, I'm not really looking forward to the full system. I'm glad I can still get regular FP with my kttw, but once that's gone things sound like they're going to be very restrictive.
I've heard a few people who didn't link their UT tickets at all, I can't remember why. Same reason perhaps?

Awesome about the MagicBands.

I had a moment the other day, because we're AP holders, and since they haven't rolled MyMagic+ out in it's entirety yet, we won't be able to take advantage of anything until it's done. Boooooooo!!!!!! So no BOG FP for me for our January trip it looks like. Unless by some miracle the rollout is done.
Really? Nothing for AP holders? Not cool, you guys for your loyalty should be the first to get it! :P

What?! No purple?! Sacrilege.
Madness I tell you.

You actually can't park hop with FP+. You actually have to use them all in one park. If you park hop, you're stuck in standby the whole time. I read that when I was doing the research on when we AP holders who book trips would be eligible to start using it.
Ugh that does not sound magical. It actually makes me want to call and have my park hoppers removed. Why bother to pay for them if I can't use the FP system? Seems like a strange move on their part.

Yay packing!
:cheer2:

Hi Wendy!! Very jealous of your MBs!!

I've been reading the same thing: Guests with MBs/FP+ are also obtaining paper FPs in addition to their FP+ ressies. They have been asking for KTTW cards at check in. In fact, there are reports that old and expired KTTW cards from past trips are also now working at the FP kiosks. Some people are also claiming that they've been able to get FPs with their drivers license!! It's a madhouse I tell ya! :lmao:
Well that's a little more comforting, that I can get a KTTW and use the regular FP system. I'm not looking to cheat and double dip, just regular old park hop!
Really? With their drivers license?? Hahaha a madhouse indeed!

Yay for no update in 2 weeks! Hehe... I've been face booking lately instead of Dis'ing..... Now I feel overwhelmed by all the catch up I must do....

Ooooo MAGIC BANDS!!
Oh I know, I haven't been on much lately either and when I come back to a tr with only one new update it's so much easier to catch up on! :lmao:

I'm excited for FP+ - not having to do the dash for FP sounds ideal ;) I can't wait to hear more reviews it seems to be rolling out well so far.

Also, I love fill flash ;)
I have some really great 9am FP+ scheduled which is awesome. I won't have to run all over kingdom come for them, which is awesome. BUT I can't use the regular FP system... which really sucks! I guess I'll keep reading others' experiences and then judge my own, but for right now I don't like the sound of it. :confused3

Thanks for the MB update. Boo to the fact that you can't PH with the FP+. I agree that you should have a set number of FP+ for the day and if you want to schedule one at each park, they should let you. I'm still not sure if I like all this FP+. :confused3
I'm the same way, with the old system you could park hop around all day pulling fastpasses... not sure why they've restricted this so much. :confused3

I like the MB's as it makes it easier with no KTTW cards, credit cards to pay, ect. but I feel like the FP+'s is a little planning overkill (and I love to plan!). I can't imagine if your not a planner how FP+ would work for you.
Johnny and I were talking (um, ranting) about that last night -- we're planners and we find this to be just too much planning, what about people who go last minute? Or who don't know they have to plan these things? Or who just aren't that type of pre-planner? Hmmm I guess it will get easier with time.

Thanks for another photography 101 lesson. I actually have them all in a binder so I can reference them.
Oh yay! I'm so glad to hear that. And that's a really good idea. :thumbsup2

Christine

Congrats on the MB's Wendy. I swear the testing phase is never going to end. I want one for my AP, but I don't think that'll happen until the testing is over. And honestly, I really can't see a full roll-out until the Xmas season is over. Too risky I think.
I guess you're right, I originally thought they'd want it fully rolled out for Christmas season but not if the testing isn't final. Too bad, I said to Danielle that you AP holders should get them first! It's too bad you won't get to try them out in December!

Yeah, I believe FP+ is one park per day. Hopefully that changes.
Definitely hoping for some changes there. I can see a decline in park hopper add ons if they don't change it!

The rumour during the testing (assuming this is still a test period) is that you can still pull regular FP with KTTW cards and the like. I've even heard OLD cards will work, so if you have so old room keys laying around, you may want to bring 'em.
I've heard that too, I'm going to dig up any old KTTW cards I can find and bring them to try, as well as requesting one at check in. :thumbsup2

Awesome step by step Wendy. Really enlightening as to how it will all work. Kudos!!
Glad to be of some service! I just thought it was pretty cool. :goodvibes

And, as always, thank you for the wonderful photography tips. I always turn the flash off during the day. Who knew? Well you knew, but, ya know...
Most people do, and in lots of situations you'd never need it but once and a while it really helps!

I hope FP+ works for you this time around! I really hope I can utilize it for our Feb trip! I adored it last time. Not sure how I feel about potentially not being able to pull regular FPs but... a guaranteed spot on my favorite rides at a time of my choosing? I think that's awesome.
I remember last year you and I were on different sides of the FP+ opinion scale! I am hoping it will work better for me this year, but I really don't like the idea of not having access to the regular FP -- not to double dip or anything, just mostly to park hop. :confused3 But yes, I have some seriously awesome FP+ times so... I guess I'll hold judgement for now!

Interesting. I don't think my camera has a fill flash - or does it? Where do I look for that option?
I don't think yours has an actual "fill flash" option, but your camera will do a great job of filling in shadows if you just pop up the flash and use it on auto. If you find it too harsh, in your menu, go to "Flash exp comp" -- That's flash exposure compensation -- and set it to -1 or -2, it will lower the power of your flash and give you the same effect a "Fill Flash" official option will. :thumbsup2

I just customized my magic bands. I made one of them say RIP Max!
That's so sweet, what a great way to honour him! Too bad you couldn't pick black for a colour, like him.

I did not know you couldn't pull other FP's. I like the FP plus option but it bothers me that if I only want one FP at say MK for the morning and I want two in the evening for Epcot, I can't do that. Boo!
Yeah that's bothering me too. And we have two days we planned for park hopping... but the FP+ is kind of throwing a wrench into it. :confused3 I hope once we get there it works out a little better for us.

Plus, my traveling partners do not have tickets purchased yet so I can't do a thing with FP+ at the end of my trip.
That really sucks! But also... it might be good. One last time to use the regular FP before they go away?

Hey there Wendy! Yay for your MBs. You'll have something to look forward to when you check in at the AKL - your MBs!! That was very helpful information that you posted regarding the process. I thought I recalled an option to note your top FP+ pick and it would then re-shuffle the options. :confused3 We only booked FP+ for about half of our days since we weren't too anxious to try it. I have to say that I ended up liking it. I have heard about paper FP being pulled in addition to FP+ options, we didn't try this.

As for your photo tips. I've seen the fill option for my flash but when I've tested it I didn't know what it was and it "looked" like a regular flash so this is good to know. My camera also has a 1/16th, 1/8th, 1/4th, and 1/2 flash option. I guess it "regulates" the amount of flash power. It is cool but I typically have to take 3 photos to see which one works best so I don't use it much.

Hey there smarty pants! You just took all the anxiety away about MB's....thank you:hug: This update was perfect for me with all the questions that kept running thru my head....you're a gem and thanks for step by step....someone like me needs that and pictures help immensely:lmao:

Whoo, happy to see you were able to customize your MagicBands and be able to pick them up at check-in. The only reason I'm staying at a Disney resort on my upcoming trip is because Alex wants a customized band. :rotfl2:
The reviews have been pretty positive about them, so I hope they work out well for you.

The FP+ seems to be the most uncertain aspect of the new system. You can't park hop, and I'm sure the double dipping of paper tickets will be stopped. I do like that you can get a FP for BoG, though. That seems really cool.

You are correct about prioritizing the FP+ selections, I forgot to mention that part because we didn't really use it, for the most part it didn't much matter to us which order we got them in. I was anxious to try it, assuming I can pull old fashioned FPs as well... hoping it works out smoothly!

Yeah it can get buggy when you've got to take multiples to figure out which setting you need, I often forgo the fill flash when I'm in a hurry for that very reason!

Heyya Jacquie! I'm very glad to help! I know I was the same way before I actually dove in and tried it -- wondering what would it look like? How would it work? Haha so I figured if there was anyone out there like me, there might be some benefit to posting it all. :thumbsup2

I'm so afraid that they're going to stop the double dipping of paper tickets before I get there! I hate that you can't park hop. On the other hand I also like that you can get a FP for BOG. and schedule fastpasses without criss-crossing the entire park. Wonder if the good will outweigh the bad...

Just clearing this up....

You can still go to different parks but can only schedule FP+ at one park a day is that what I am reading?

So if you are park hopping for a meal and than spending the day at another park this would still work out okay right? Just can only set up Fast Pass at one park???

That's how I understand it. You can definitely still park hop, just that you can't use Fastpass+ at both, and you can't use FP+ and FP together, meaning that you would have to do standby the whole time at one park. So yeah, if you're hopping for a meal, no biggie. If you're spending half the day at one park and half at another, prepare to standby at one.

Hi everyone!

I can't believe how close we're getting!!

Just a quick post today. I've been thinking about the benefits vs. the downsides to the MagicBands and (mostly) the Fastpass+ system and I felt like I wanted to get it out of my head and in type to analyze my thoughts about it. I need a Pensieve. (Any Potter fans?)

Pensieve.jpg

So let's do it this way. I'm going to write out what I know and I'm asking anyone who has an additional pro, con, piece of info, and/or opinion to please share.

Magic Bands

Pros:
- Keeps all information in one place
- Less likely to lose it than the KTTW since it's strapped to your wrist
- Slightly customizable
- Add a PIN for more security
- All things KTTW had, plus your FP+ as well

Cons:
- Might get annoying to wear
- Interesting tan lines are a distinct possibility. (geckodani)

I can't think of any others.

I'm excited for MBs, they look like a good idea and I have no issues with this change. And trust me, if anyone was going to resist changes, it would be me.

tumblr_m9akam0CHM1qih9gi.gif

And separately...

FastPass+

Pros:
- No criss-crossing the park to get FP then back to ride
- Able to get early times without stampeding with the herd
- BOG lunch - need I say more?
- Seems easy to plan, they offer suggestions, ability to prioritize, etc.
- Change on the fly from smart phone or in park kiosk
- Get late FP for Park A & spend the morning at Park B (ex: Book a late FP for TSM but spend your morning at MK - old way the FPs would be gone before you got there) (geckodani)

Cons:
- Only three available per day
- Can only be used at one park
- Can not be used in conjunction with current FastPass system
- No other times available last year when I tried to change from park kiosk. (*Might be easier this year.)
- Needing to plan out entire vacation up to 60 days in advance
- Hard to change FP+ if plans drastically alter (*Again, from previous experience, could be easier now.)
- More attractions than ever with FP+ options means big ones could "sell out" leaving some people to get FP+ for things that never needed one - i.e. Tiki Room (DisneyKid4Life)

Additional relevant notes:
- FOR NOW, can get a KTTW to pull regular FP if park hopping -- this is expected to change.

For me personally, without using it and hoping to find otherwise once in the park, but the cons outweigh the pros in this one by a fair bit. I'm a planner. I'd even go so far as to say I'm almost a super planner... but even though I don't mind planning my meals 180 days in advance and therefore planning a rough park outline then, I'm not excited about pre-planning which rides I will ride and when. Call me dramatic, but it just feels like spontaneity is dead with this system.

tumblr_mc2ui62SVt1rn95k2o1_500.gif

I will of course try this whole new world with enthusiasm and even try for some optimism.

tumblr_m4x2u2K9y31qm6oc3o1_500.gif

So there it is all laid out in front of me, what I know so far. I'm going to go forward from here with a good attitude!

tumblr_ltces5DCQ01r54gvgo1_500.gif

What do you all think of the new changes?

I'm excited for the changes. I don't like planning things way out so much, but since we don't visit in peak times I'm not too worried. I think utilizing I for must see attractions will be great. My idea is for us, utilize rope drop (we are am people so it's perfect for us) and then use the FP+ For things we may do later in the day.

And yaaaay 42 days!!

Call me dramatic, but it just feels like spontaneity is dead with this system.

What do you all think of the new changes?

Pro: Able to get late times without having to stampede/try to time FP return windows around ADRs.

For example, right now, if you want to start the day at MK and then hop to HS, your chances of riding TSMM are pretty much nonexistent. With FP+, you could start the day at MK, ride standby in the morning when lines are short, take an afternoon break, hop to HS for dinner, and then ride TSMM, RNR and TOT after dinner, guaranteed.

The biggest con for me is the no regular FP. As for spontaneity, is there the option to only utilize FP+ on certain days? If so, maybe have a day or two here and there that you utilize normal FP for?

Great pros and cons list Wendy!

One of my biggest concerns with FP+ when it completely rolls out is the huge number of attractions that will have FP that never did before, and didn't need it. Like Pirates for instance. It's not so bad during the testing phase as the amount of FP+ users is relatively limited. But when everyone (potentially) can use it (and well in advance of a trip) the available times for the big stuff may well be gone quickly. So everyone else is stuck with a FP for Tiki Room.

You think standby lines are long now... :scared1:

My other gripe is one you already touched on and that's the ability to book so far in advance. I'm like you, I like to plan, but not down to the ride.

A lot of people are really digging the whole thing, but again, when you have it in limited use AND the ability to still use regular FP, it really can't be anything but great.

I will keep an open mind though. I don't like to judge anything completely until after it's in full use. It may be awesome. :bitelip:
