What's the biggest thing you've lost............then found?

I have the diamond from my grandmother's engagement ring that I wear on a chain around my neck. One day, about six years ago, as I was talking on the phone, I went to play with my necklace and noticed that it was not on my neck. I still remember that awful feeling. Somehow I remembered that I had felt an odd feeling in the bottom of my pant leg a day or two earlier when I took my son to the Y for basketball practice. Somehow I knew that my chain had slipped down my shirt, down my pants and fallen out in the parking lot at the Y. Over to the parking lot I go, I could not find it. I go inside to see if anyone had turned it in. The guy at the counter asked if it was "real". I said yeah and he said nobody would turn in something like that (the Y is not in a very good neighborhood) I was pretty despondent. I had called my insurance company and a check was in process.

About two weeks after I noticed that the necklace was missing, I was at one of my son's basketball games. I got into a long discussion with the grandmother of a little girl on my son's team. I could not believe what I saw. Mid sentence I stopped and asked "Karen, did you find that necklace?" She said "Yes, I found it in the parking lot. Did you lose it?" I said yes. She quickly began taking it off. She said she had one question "Is it real?". I told her it was. Her husband had told her no way was it real--you don't just find diamond necklaces on the ground at the Y!

I lost my ego one time. But I got it back and it's bigger than ever. :teeth:

Not me, but a friend of mine played on a volleyball team at church. She took her 4 carot diamond ring off and tennis bracelet (all real diamonds) and put them in a red plastic cup in her cup holder on the console in her van prior to the game. This woman has 8 kids (three adopted from Haiti) and her van is a disaster. After the game, she and her oldest were headed home and decided to swing by Sonic for a Cherry Limeade. While sitting there, she told her son to pick up all the trash and throw it away. He did a good job. She woke up at about 3 a.m. and realized he threw away her ring and bracelet. She and her husband got up at 5a .m., went to Sonic and scoured the trash cans. She knew it was in a bright red plastic Solo cup, so knew what to look for. The manager came out and asked what they were doing. When they told him, he joined in their search. It was the middle of winter, very cold and snowing. My friend sat in her van while her dutiful husband and the Sonic manager crawled through the dumpster. They found it after about 1/2 hour of looking. She is much more careful about where she puts her jewelry since then, lol!

I lost the diamond from my engagement ring, then I lost the wedding band while having a water fight at a lake. Didn't find either one, but got a beautiful set the next Christmas. The first ring's diamond was a chip (we were young and poor when we first got married), so the new one was definately and improvement.

Lost my purse at a HUGE truck stop on the San Joaquin Valley side of the Grapevine (for those of you not in the So. Cal. area, the Grapevine is a huge freeway pass over a number of mountains that takes about an hour to cross from end to end - Los Angeles area on one end and San Joaquin Valley on the other). Didn't realize it until I got to my friend's house about an hour and a half away (in L.A.). I was mortified! I kept thinking about all the cards I'd have to replace... all the stuff that was in there.... how could I be so stupid not to realize it sooner?!? I just figured all hope was lost. There are so many people in and out of that truck stop - no way would someone turn the purse in, it would be too easy to take it and no one would ever know.

My friend insisted that I call the truck stop. After managing to remember the name of it, I called information and got the number. I couldn't believe it when the man I spoke with said someone had turned it in!!! We drove all the way back over the Grapevine (a horribly boring drive), while I worried all the while that everything of value would be missing from the purse.

When we got there, they gave me the purse back and I checked it hurriedly - everything was there!!!! I asked if the person who turned it in had left their name, phone, address... anything. They said no. I couldn't believe anyone could be so kind and honest. What a HUGE relief!!! Our final trip over the long and boring Grapevine was much more pleasant. Though after a total of about six hours on the road that day (it should only have been 2.5 hours) my friend and I were both tired of the whole danged thing!

Thank heavens for that wonderful person who turned in my purse and thank heavens for my wonderful friend who drove me back and forth and put up with my moods! ::yes::

Another diamond engagement ring lost here...on my wedding day:eek:

In order for my husband to put the wedding band on my bare left ring finger, I moved my engagement ring to my right hand during the ceremony. Well I guess my right ring finger is significantly smaller than my left because it must have slipped off! We pulled away from the church in the limo and I reached for the engagement ring to put it on my left hand along with my new wedding band and it wasn't there:eek: We were about three blocks away from the church and had to quickly double back (the rest of the cars had no clue what we were doing!) Our limo driver actually found my ring in a pile of rice at the foot of the church stairs. Needless to say, the size of his tip was GREATLY increased at that point:D

Well, I didn't lose it, but DH lost his wedding band on Splash Mountain the FIRST day of our HONEYMOON! We got splashed, DH shook his hands to get the water off, and the ring flew off into the water! I cried and cried...I was so upset! We knew exactly where it happened, told splash CMs, who told us to go to City Hall to report it. Did that and was told if it was heavy it would sink and they could probably find it...thankfully DH's ring was platinum! The next day, we got back from MGM...no message re the ring. :( DH called central lost and found...no ring. :( Decided to call City Hall...they had a match! :) Yep...those WONDERFUL CM's took the time and actually found DH's ring!!

I lost the plane tickets for our honeymoon...never found those...DH still doesn't let me forget that one after 3.5 years.

Another diamond here......but not the ring just the diamond. A few months ago I had been playing with our boxer and usually she rolls her lips in when playing. Well somehow my ring hit a tooth and I chipped off a prong and noticed the others looked worn and I should have gotten the head replaced then. Well a week later we came home from a friends house and I realized my ring felt rough and discovered the diamond was gone. Searched alllllllllllllll over our house and all over at the friends house too. The next day when putting my make-up on I noticed my diamond on the counter at the edge of my Longaberger basket. I must have bumped it on the towell rack and never heard it drop since I have tinnitus.

I received a gold bracelet from my in-laws one year for Chanukah. It was very pretty and fairly thick. One day I noticed it was missing from my wrist.

DH and I had been to a car repair place in a neighborhood that was not the nicest. I was having my car's windshield replaced. We went back to pick up my car and I looked in the street where I had originally parked my car. There it was -- right in the street. It even looked like someone ran it over. It was flattened in one area. I'm wearing today -- but I do check it frequently to make sure it is still there.

My mother lost a solid gold rope bracelet in Marshall's. She was trying stuff on when she noticed it was missing. She checked the dressing room and the clothes she had tried on. Nothing. She decided to go back to the area she had been browsing. It was not on the floor.

She was looking in the racks when she found it caught on a sweater.

I guess my diamond from my e-ring, though I barely lost it. I was carrying a box into my new place, and as I put it down, it pulled one of the prongs and the diamond fell out. (Great ring construction, there.) But I saw it fall and picked it up right away, so it wasn't really lost.

I lost my car keys. I work in supermarkets. Today I was at a store a little over 2 hours from home. The cart I got had a broken wheel so I put it back and got a different cart, but left my car keys in the first cart. I went to leave, no keys. I go back up front, no cart, no keys ahhhhh I ask at the office no keys. Lucky for me someone had found them and put them some place the office girl didn't know about. Whew......
