What's the best way to sell Beanie Babies?

I got caught up in the Beanie Baby craze in the 90's and now I have boxes and boxes of them. We're having a garage sale next week and I want to just get rid of them all - a buck a piece - but some people are insisting that a few of them could be worth more. I checked on Ebay but it seems like there are a zillion for sale but no one is really buying. They're only worth money if someone is willing to pay it!

Anyhow, what do you think is the best way to sell these things? I'm more interested in getting rid of them rather than making money, but I also don't want to sell something for a buck that someone is going to turn around and make hundreds on (probably an exaggeration). Is there a good online site or book or something that I could find values? Thanks!

For the most part beanie babies arent worth much at all... There is the exception though as there are the ones worth more.. if it was myself Id probably do a little research and the ones that have a potential to be worth more Id probably put aside and try to sell them on ebay and see how that goes and the others Id sell at the garage sale.. On ebay you wont get much more than $1 a piece so it would be less hassle with not having to box them up and mail them.. although if they dont sell at your garage sale than Id try to sell them in bulk on ebay... depending on how many you have maybe you can put a small ad in the local newspaper and advise you'd like to sell the entire lot..

I gave mine to my church for a group going to Africa to give to the children over there. Really very little success in selling them so when they asked for beanie babies for the trip I gave them boxes of them.

I have heard of soldiers giving these to Iraqi children; does anyone know of a place where I can donate bunches of them? I hate garage sales, but each DD has a huge box of Beanies in the shelf in the closet.

Oh I would like to know this too.

Also, check with your local police and fire departments. They often carry small stuffed toys in their vehicles to give to children at emergencies.

A co-worker just sold a "lot" of bears on ebay. She did pretty well, making around $4 per bear. In the longrun, she actually lost money considering she probably paid more than $5 or $6 for most of them, but at least they are not cluttering up closets any longer.

This is definitely something I need to do too. Hopefully we will be moving soon, so I would LOVE to get rid of the tons of beanies that I have! However, I would MUCH rather get rid of the few hundred Barbies that I collected for a few years, they take up waaaay too much space!! I just don't even know where to begin to sell them! :confused3

:wave2: Another former beanie baby addict here. I have given them out as baby shower wishing well gifts, donated to church for their sales and bring them on our cruise to hand out to the children in the streets. The fire dept is a good idea - at least you can take a deduction off your taxes by donating to them.

*wipes brow* I'm so glad I'm not alone in my previous addiction. Of course now I have a LOT of beanies and only a few I'm attatched to. I probably should do the leg work and find out which ones are "important" and "Saleable" and just donate the rest to the police station to give to abused children. Good luck on selling them at your yardsale.

I sold allot of mine when the prices were great!! I managed to get a trip to Disney and buy my daughter a new bedroom set! I have one a few left now. like the minis from Mcdonals, and princess Di...etc.

all the time and money spend on these!! now they are worth nadda!
good luck!
oh, I had sold mine at a collectalbes store, you know where you buy baseball cards etc!

I sold a lot of mine last year on Ebay - I think they sold for $20.00 and I can't remember how many I had. I found out after I had been paid that the person buying them did so for a charity raffle and were including them in some baskets so I ended up refunding her money and donating them. That worked out perfect for us. Their are only a few worth anything on Ebay anymore.

I was wondering what to do with my kids beanies when I found the www.anysoldier.com website. Now we are going to send them over in a care paclage for the soldiers to give to kids. If you aren't going to much money anyway, why not give to something really worthwhile?

Disney 551 what kind of Barbies do you have? Are they the collectables? Do you have any of the Marilyn Monroe Barbies? My dh collects Barbies but he is missing one of the three MM barbies.

I sold a bunch of the non-bear variety at a garage sale before I moved. I was lucky to get $1 a piece. I have a ton of the bears. A lot of them are the foreign variety. I've looked at the auctions on Ebay and they really don't go for very much unless you have very rare ones.

Good luck!

We packaged most of ours with the boxes we sent to soldiers in Iraq last winter. I guess they either keep them or give them to children. Either way, it's a good thing to do.

We tried to sell some of ours for around $1/piece but did not have great luck. I managed to sell more when they were 2 for $1. We might have had a little more luck except we were part of a neighborhood garage sale and we are on the back side of the neighborhood. At one of the first houses they were selling beanies for a dime so most people who wanted them just bought them there. :)
