What's the best way to fix this ticket mess?

Ok, here's the situation: we booked a family trip last time we went, but at the last minute, DH's employers cancelled his vacation week and he had to stay and work. The rest of us went as planned, so he has a 7-day unused park-hopper ticket left, but the kids and I have no tickets currently.

We want to book the MYW package with free dining, but as I understand it, that requires us all to purchase the same tickets.

Should I get us all 1-day plain base tickets for package purposes, then upgrade the tickets for myself and the children to 7-day tickets upon arrival, leaving us with an unused 1-day ticket? Would that trigger any flak from the ticket people? Or is there a better way to do it which is considered more acceptable and/or wouldn't result in a leftover ticket? How should I handle adding the park hopping option -- is it better to do that up front, or make it one of the things I add when I upgrade to 7 days, or does it matter?

Thanks in advance!

I know that you can all get 1 day tickets for the package and then upgrade whatever ones you want when you get there. I am certain they will understand that your DH already has a ticket.

The good thing about the left over 1 day ticket that will be on a room key, is that it never expires and anyone can use it.

Maybe someone else has some other info but that is what I know.

That's exactly what you should do. The ticket people won't think twice. :)

It is my understanding that you all have to be on the DP if you are in the same room. You do NOT have to all have the same ticket. But, you have to buy at least a 1 day pass. So, I would buy the 1 day pass for each of you and when you get there upgrade to what you want.

Thanks, everyone! It's good to know that this is apparently fairly routine, and I won't have anyone growling at me for trying to skirt the rules to get in on the free dining package :) I suppose that means that I'll need to miss out on the advance-purchase discount, but I'm sure getting free dining is worth far more than the discount.

I didn't realize the leftover 1-day ticket would be one that anyone could use -- you mean it won't have DH's name on it? His leftover ticket from last time does.

Thanks again for the help. I love these boards!

Since your ticket will most likely be on your room key, make sure you don't accidentally use his room key for entry one day. If you are not going to take advantage of EE I would recommend keeping his room key separate from the others when going to the parks.

I feel like I should know this already, having just been there last year, but -- what is EE?

I know what FP stands for, and EMH, but EE stumps me :) The only thing I can think of is Expedition Everest, and surely it doesn't require a different ticket for that one particular ride.

I did figure we'd leave the pass he didn't use in our room. We plan to stay together as a group, so he won't need a room key of his own more than likely, and if he does he could always use one of the kids' passes.

Ardenne - EE is the old term for Early Entry. This was before EMH, when you could only get into the parks early in the AM - didn't have the extra hours after park closing.

Just a thought and I'm sure people will correct me if it's not possible. But, can you possibly book your package with the one day base minimum like you suggested, but then buy your "real" park hoppers online ahead of time (so you get the advanced purchase discount) and save the one day base tickets for another time? That way you get the best of both worlds?
