What's the best way to find a lawyer?

My husband and I want to become the legal guardians for DH's 17 year old brother, so we need a lawyer. But I don't know how to find one. We've only needed lawyers for real estate up until this point, and none of our friends have been able to recommend one either. How do you go about finding someone? I've heard that "good" lawyers don't advertise, but that just makes it harder to find them.

Seriously though, call your local bar association, they should have a lawyer referral service.

if you can't find a personal referral, Findlaw.com has listings. I don't know if it's any better than going to the yellow pages, though.

I asked my accountant for a referral, and I'm very pleased with the result. Ask a neighbor. From what you said, the work should be pretty cut and dry, so don't fret too much. The task at hand may be easier to accompolish than you anticipate.
