What's so special about Chef Mickey's?

Well - for our first family trip, we picked dates around my then three year old daughters birthday. I was very excited to have her 'birthday celebration' at CMs! However, the service was just BAD. Our server acted like he was doing us a favor by bringing our drinks....and when it was time to deliver the cake...he just SLAPPED it on the table and walked away, no - HAPPY BIRTHDAY little girl or anything. She was THREE...and I just remember her looking to me like - mommy did I do something wrong?!?!

He absolutely ruined the experience for us, and we have never been back.

The characters on the other hand were wonderful, we got plenty of 'face time' with them.

#1: Classic characters, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Chip n Dale!

#2: Excellent buffet food, with many choices, and it's a great value for the price.

#3: You're dining where Walt Disney wanted you to dine. Without having to pay to stay at The Contemporary, you can take the Monorail into it (just like Walt wanted you to).

#4: The character interaction. It may have been mentioned in other posts here, but I'm not going to ruin it. Let's just say that there is a certain thing that the characters all do at the same time that gets all the guests involved at the same time. It's a blast!

#5: Professional group picture taken for you. We dress up the best during this meal. Then we buy the pictures with keychains and magnets and stuff.

The server probably isn't there anymore and if you should be so lucky just request he not serve you. The place can really be fun and your kids might be able to enjoy it even more now that they're bit older. You said the characters were awesome, that's what they really care about anyway and seeing them light up with the charaters is what you hope to see, so give it another shot. If you tried dinner, try breakfast next time to mix it up as well.

You had high expectations for the event and the server let you down, but Mickey and his pals did just fine; focus on that and get a manager quickly if you have concerns while you're there.
