What's one of the most idiotic things you carried on a plane?

I just saw the Hotwire ad where the guy is carrying a giant frog on board a plane!! It reminded me of the time I came home from Disney carrying a three foot stuffed orange dinosaur I had won at AK!! I'm sure some people thought I was nuts!!!

Have you ever had an odd carry on??

Oh that isn't odd to me at all, Kitty! I've carried large stuffed animals on the plane too... and to make it cute, if the seat next to me was empty, I'd buckle up the bear :teeth: Got cute comments on that :teeth:

Mine wasn't very odd-it was one of those blow-up neck pillows to put behind your neck. Problem was, the pillow was blown up very firm, but for some reason(air pressure differences?)the pillow started to get harder and harder. I was so afraid the thing was going to POP any second. It was one of those things that got me laughing hysterically until I was in tears. People around me probably thought I was wacko! To this day, I've never taken that pillow on the plane again.

A 3 foot tall Superman statue from the Warner Brothers Store in Las Vegas had to sit in my lap from Vegas to Daytona Beach a few years ago. We wanted the statue for our store.

Looking back, that thing was HEAVY, a PAIN, and not a lot of fun to have sitting on a pregnant stomach.

2 big sombreros from Mexico....they took up the whole little closet area in the front of the plane...boy were people pissed at us!!!

We haven't brought anything that crazy but my grandpa bought me a giant dog (he was HUGE) when I was a little girl and bought it an airplane seat to bring it home to me. Everyone got a kick out of a big dog sitting next to him I guess. ;)

I once brought all the fixins for hot weiners from Boston to LA! For those not familiar with this regional food, it's a weiner type hot dog smothered with mustard, celery salt, onions, and a special meat sauce. My friend in California devours them whenever she visits so I got the bright idea to bring the weiners to her. I went to the diner and told the folks what I was doing. They gave me all the ingredients and we double and triple wrapped everything. Unfortunately for the people sitting around me, the smell of them penetrated all of the styrofoam and foil! It wasn't the most pleasant trip for some people! But my friend was ecstatic!

When we were in China adopting DD we naturally bought a lot of things. One of those was a traditional Chinese field hat. You've probably seen what I'm talking about it's made of bamboo and is pointy on top with a wide brim all around. Naturally it wouldn't fit in any of our luggage so we had to carry it on the plane. DH and I now refer to it as that *amn hat. It now sits on a shelf in DD's room.

In Disney World, we bought a big donkey pinata at the Mexico pavilion. Of course it wouldn't fit into any suitcases, so I got stuck carrying it on the plane with me lol

I don't remember exactly what it was, but is was small and round and one of my then infant sons favorite toys... lost it in about 3 minutes...

The most idiotic thing I ever forgot to take off a plane was my return ticket. That would be $70 mistake...

Fried oyster poorboys and the ingredients for Muffleatta sandwiches all of which I purchased while in New Orleans. It's a family tradition. My dad used to do some business in New Orleans and he was introduced to both of those food products. He used to bring them home for us and whatever time he got home we would eat them -- 11 or 12 midnight wasn't strange.

Our best friends from the time we were kids moved to Virginia and when we told them we were coming, they asked us to bring some sausage from the local place. We had one carry-on totally stuffed with hot dogs, summer sausage, ring balogna and cheddar cheese. It was heavy and sort of embarrasing when we went through security...

Boxes of geodes. This was back in the days when you could carry just about anything on the plane and the flight attendants would find room for it. Two boxes full of geodes coming home with me from California. The flight attendant jokingly says "these are kind of heavy. What's in them, rocks?"

Yup.

This is the oddest thing I've ever seen...

Last September on the flight home from Las Vegas, the man in front of me brought the largest string (stalk?) of chili peppers I had ever seen. It had to be 5 or 6 feet long and too large to fit in the overhead. He eventually kept it in the bathroom until take-off and then sat with it on his lap.

I often wonder just what he was going to do with ALL those chili peppers.

While on a business trip I managed to squeeze in a visit to an event sponsored by a sister group to an organization I belong to. I won the quite large raffle basket. Lucklily there was an empty seat next to me, and I buckled it in. Not sure how it would have gotten home otherwise!

My SIL shows Alaskan Malamutes. So when they fly to a show, they take the dogs on the plane... Its so wierd. Thank god they occasionally drive to the shows!

For me, it was a HUGE dance bag with about ten pairs of shoes: 1 character, 3 soft ballet, 4 pointe, and 2 pairs of sneakers. The smell when I opened it must have been hideous :crazy2: ... but I was going to a dance camp and would have been lost if they wouldn't have gotten there.

I've gotten some very strange looks from the security people manning the x-ray machine. Once, I had to carry my hockey mask in my backpack (wouldn't fit in my checked bag). It was quite obvious that the security guy had never seen a hand-painted goalie mask before. He made me take it out of it's bag, and he inspected it thoroughly.

Another time, I was travelling back from a hockey game, when I noticed that the x-ray belt had stopped, and the security people were looking at me and then the monitor and back with a confused look on their face. I said "Cowbell", they start laughing, and turn the belt on full speed, shooting my bag out at me.
