I am cooking dinner for my inlaws. I have never done a holiday meal for anyone other than my own family and that was with their help. I want this to be a good meal without being too crazy for me to pull off.

I am planning to make a turkey breast, which I am hoping for some inspiration on how to cook it to make it awesome.

Traditionally, I have to make dressing, potato salad, & deviled eggs because that has always been a part of how my family does it. Gabby wants broccoli, rice, & cheese casserole and pumpkin pie.

We also have pecan pie, mashed potatoes & gravy, wild rice, corn bread muffins, speckled butter beans, asperagas, and of course, cranberry sauce.

I have to have all of this meal done for lunch on Thanksgiving day. OMG! Plus, I have to take in a dish for my coworkers the day before Thanksgiving because we do the meal at work too.

Maybe I should go start something now....like Xanax. :bitelip: Maggie

Still trying to figure that out... just my DD8 and I until my mom flies into town at 6:30pm. I'm thinking I'll have a small turkey and the basics - or hey maybe The Macaroni Grill out OIA!!!! I'll be cooking a late T-day/Early XMAS meal on 12/4 while my sister (who is staying at CBR) and my mother (who is staying at Casa De La Kasper Resort (aka my house) are still visiting - then I will do Turkey and Ham, and some side dishes - mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, pineapple souffle/casserole -
who know... maybe I'll have it catered! I don't like preparing big meals any more!

That's really a lot of stuff. Any chance some can be forgotten? If you really want all of that by lunch - yikes - I'd suggest purchasing some rather than making, such as the potato salad, the pies, and perhaps the corn muffins. You could make the muffins ahead and freeze them I suppose. I've made turkey breasts but honestly I find the whole turkey is better because some people actually like dark, it keeps the breast meat juicier, and the drippings are required for the best gravy.

Good luck. The first time I made Thanksgiving dinner for my parents and new in-laws, neither hubby nor I knew about the bags inside the turkey. What fond memories, lol.

I would make a combination of your family favorites and what Gabby's family usually eats. Don't do too much though. You can't do 2 separate full menus unless you have a large crowd coming. I cycle menu items through each holiday, so year to year there is some variety and eventually everyone's favorites are served. I also let a different person pick 2 items they want each year, so I have someone else to blame when a certain person complains we aren't having green bean casserole, again. ;)

At our Thanksgiving at my grandma's we have a fried turkey, turkey and dressing, a ham, cranberry sauce (from the can!!!), deviled eggs, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, yam/sweet potatoe casserole, pinto beans, green beans, vinegar slaw, cream cheese on celery, homemade yeast rolls, sweet tea, pumpkin pies, pecan pies, coconut cake, and homemade fudge. Sometimes we have different stuff in addition to that, but that's the main things we have! Ohhhh! I can't wait! :rotfl:

Im cooking Thanksgiving this year for the first time of coarse I will have some help from my SIL but Im just making a traditional Thanksgiving meal, Turkey (im making just a turkey breast since nobody in my family likes dark meat) a ham for those who don't want turkey breast, candy yams, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, homemade pumkin pie, you know all the usual thanksgiving foods.
