We are brand new....so pardon my questions:

My home resort is VWL. If I wanted to do a big Xmas bash (Dec. 16-26) in '07 requiring a grand villa...what do you guys think my chances would be to get one at the 7 month booking window? I am flexible as to which resort.

Thanks for the info!!

Kristine

Not good, I'm afraid. Definitely not at BWV. A slight chance at OKW or SSR.

I would think there is no chance you could get a grand villa at OKW at the 7 month window.

For example on February 1, 2006, I called to reserve a grand villa at OKW looking for December 15, through December 22. Even that far out I had to waitlist for the night of the 21st. Thankfully the waitlist did clear in early March and we do have all the days that are needed.

I'd say your chance is slim to none. MAYBE at SSR, but definitely not BWV, and probably not OKW. For that time, your best bet would be to trade points with an owner at one of the resorts that has GVs and work from the 11 month window. The other choice is to get two 2 bedroom villas at VWL reserved right at the 11 month booking window, and then try for a GV at 7 months. If it is available, you can cancel the VWL ressie and make the GV one, or if not, you will still have plenty of room for your guests in 2-2 bedroom units.

Boy you guys are a downer!! :teeth: I figured as much.

Let me ask anther question....if it wasn't Christmas, are chances good in general to get a GV at the 7 month window? Maybe October or February?

Thanks!!

:rotfl2:

Did you ever think of either adding on or renting from another member?

I am just so new to this...I am not "ready" for that yet! :teeth:

Slim to none I'm afraid. This is also why I feel it is a mistake to own at a resort without GV. You never know when you may want or need one. 11 months is almost a necessity, day by day booking even.

Good luck and sorry to be a downer.

Grand Villas are a hot item. OKW is popular because of the low points required. BWV is popular because of the location. Thus both of these tend to book prior to the 7-month window.

SSR is still under construction so chances there are unknown. I'm sure after a year or so there'll be a better picture of how hard/easy it is to get SSR GV's.

Don't rule it out completely. I was able to get a Grand Villa at the BW for this coming May/ June Memorial Day week. I only had enough BW points to book the first 4 nights, but at 7 mos I was able to get 2 out of 3 more. I waitlisted the other night and it has already come through. Yes I was shocked, but estactic!! So you never know until you try! :confused3

Slim to none for October, slight chance for February as long as it isn't President's week.

You should try making arrangements with an OKW owner. It is not exactly the same situation (a GV at Christmas time - a Beach Cottage at Labor Day), but we were successful getting the Beach Cottage over Labor Day weekend a few years ago. We are BWV owners and we found VB Owners that were interested in our BWV points so they could book a standard BWV room at 11 months out - saving points and stay longer. You might find an OKW owner that is interested in staying at VWL at a special time of the year would like the 11 month window that you could offer them.

In our transaction, we couldn't transfer points because of the "1 transfer - 1 way each year rule" so we just made each others reservations and then traded them.

Some day we might be interested in a VWL reservations at 11 months out and be willing to trade reservations for BWV standard room reservation. Each resort has its own reason for wanting a 11 month window.

When we first purchased DVC (back in 2000), that was what I envisioned: DVC Owners trading reservations as wanted and I was surprised to find out about the commercial renting that was taking place.

Good Luck.

I just did a BWV GV for early October next year, day by day. Even the CM said it was a good idea to do day by day even at 11 months. I would think you might have a chance if you're really talking about around Christmas time since that's the highest point requirements and maybe folks just balk at using that many. You never know until you try.

Taking the family on a spur of the moment surprise trip Dec 19 - 24. Big family = need a 2br. I called early Nov and none at any resort were available, but got 4 of 5 nights at SSR and was waitlisted for 1 night. Just found out I got it. Here's the big surprise....They actually had a GV @ SSR available for all nights Dec 19 - 24! Just never know unless you call.

If you are referring to me...I am only a "newbie" to DVC. I have been travelling to Disney since I was a kid (now taking my own kids) and have been on Dis boards for quite some time.

Rad, congrats on your ressie! Are there new rules regarding the booking window? I thought you couldn't book Dec. 07 until Jan. 07.

Nope, no new rules, 11 months from your checkout date for your home resorts. I meant to say October, my bad.
