What's it like to stay in an RV at WDW?

Actually to stay in an RV anywhere! We were thinking about renting one and this would be our first time. For people used to staying in hotels/resorts, what can we expect, will it be roomy enough? What size RV do you guys suggest for a me, DH, and 3 kids, 5, 3 and a baby, with a possibility of my stepdaughter (16) staying for a couple of nights (she'll be in school during most of our stay). Thanks for any info/advice!

In one word: Heaven! You get to fight the crowds all day in the parks, come back and relax. You can see your neighbors, but have to be really loud to disturb them. A hot shower using your own stuff and a good meal that did not cost an arm and leg. The best part is when it is time to go to sleep, it is in your own bed, with your own sheets, pillow and blanket. We have a 31 foot travel trailer with a bunkhouse. My kids are 3, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 18 and we all fit nicely! The kids have to shower at the comfort station (as I do because of unending hot water). We have one slide and all the comforts of home. We are only in the camper at night as the kids are exploring the campground during the day while not in the parks. My family would not stay any other place. We bought our camper just to stay in Disney!

personally its the best way to travel in my opinion - your own bed and bathroom

I suggest if you are renting to try a class c, this is the cab over bed type motorhome.

Camping in an RV is definetely not roughing it, your are "roughing it" in style - AC, microwave, cd player etc.... the best way to find out out if it is for you is to do what you are trying - rent first.

Fort Wilderness will spoil you to all other campgrounds though.

As the others have said, staying in an RV at FW is wonderful, for all the reasons they stated and more. However - if you are going to be staying at FW in an RV and it is your FIRST TIME in an RV, I would recommend that you try to rent one locally and see if you LIKE it. Yes, it won't be FW, but you may find that you like the RV lifestyle enough to buy your own motorhome or trailer and use it for all your vacations. Or, you may decide that it is not for you and at least you can make that decision before that dislike ruins your WDW vacation.

I grew up RV'ing with my folks and for me, I don't think there is a better way to go on vacation short of someone else paying for it and waiting on me hand and foot.

Just wanted to add that campers are the friendliest people you will meet. They are quick to compare camping notes or help out.

One our favorite activities is to sit out under the awning and people watch. We always seem to start a conversation with someone.

It sounds great, but I'm finding that renting an RV is very expensive! Not that i thought I would save money by renting an RV and staying at the campgrounds, but I didn't think it would be so much more expensive to do so than to stay in a Disney resort. With all the extra charges for mileage etc, it adds up real quick! I guess we would save some money by cooking or own meals....but still not enough to make up the difference. Would love to do it, but I'm not sure it's affordable for us right now. Thanks for everyone's input!
