Assuming your home has one, what do you use your basement for? For the past 7 years, ours was just unfinished space used for storage. DH and I have started finishing the basement and are working on a home theater in one room. This is a DIY project, so the learning curve is pretty tough, but we're SO excited about what we'll have when its done. :hyper: So what's in your basement?

Most of it is a finished playroom for our 3 little boys. We're getting ready to repaint it soon actually, I'm turning it into our WDW room. :D Then we have our PC down there in a "nook" area, the laundry room is in a partially finished area, the pool table is in the biggest unfinished part, and then there are two decent sized storage areas (under the steps and in the utility room). We couldn't fit in this house without the basement that's for sure!! :teeth:

Still in storage mode. We hope to have that cleared out soon and start to finish it.

It will have an small storage area, office/bedroom w/ in closet, bathroom, full kitchen w/ extra stand-up freezer, family room w/ tv.

I cannot wait! ::yes::

We finished our basement about six months after we moved in. We have a guestroom with a full bath, a storage room, a playroom for the girls, and an all-purpose room with a wet bar/sofas and the TV. I love our basement, but unfortunately I don't get to go down there too much to enjoy it.

1/2 of it is finished into a Game room -- the kid's video games and a Foosball table and a bedroom for our oldest son.

The other 1/2 has a Pool Table and it is where the largest dogs sleep at night. We want to finish it also but it is pretty far down on the list. I want to redo our Family room next and then the upstairs needs carpet and then our Master Bath REALLY needs work and then the tiles in the hall bath are starting to fall.

sigh

I wish Amy Winn was my sister.

Mold, mildew, boxes, clothes from the 70s, Cabbage Patch dolls, Barbies, He-Man characters, two refrigerators, more boxes, old school books, retired lamps, suitcases, and several cases of beer from a graduation party held in the mid-90s.

Just to name a few...

:jester: :p

Laundry room, storage room, tool room, play room, bedroom, bathroom and shower.

I need to clean out the storage room and the play room. And the snakes are in the play room.

We finished have the basement. Half of that has our pool table and dart board. Separating the room is cabinets with a counter top (encompassing the two support columns). These are used for mega toy storage. The other side is the nuggets play area with tv/vcr/dvd.

To my horror, toys have started creeping into the "pool room" side!

Well, we have a split entry so it is mostly finished. Our laundry room and (bowling) closet under the steps are the only areas that are cement and blocks.

We have our family room w/ fireplace, 2 bedrooms (one is currently our office space) and a 3/4 bathroom. DH also has his workout bench downstairs in the family room so that he can watch TV and work out at the same time:rolleyes:

I want to move to where I can have a basement.

We have a cement basement in an older farm house. It stays pretty dry so we have an old pool table down there. We have a couple of things in storage but since the children are gone (with their toys!) So it is pretty empty!

Our basment is unfinished right now. We do have our extra couch, tv, chair and coffee table down there since our old house had a finished basement. We also have a storage area and an area that will be a 4th bedroom, closet and a bathroom when we finish it.

Mine has one room is a laundry room and one room is an exercise equipment room, And the other one is where my dh's band practices at with all the band equipment down there.

After reading all of these posts that is how I feel also. :(

Ours is completely finished with a full bath/shower. Because of the way our house is shaped, the basement is kind of an odd shape. One section is a workout area with exercise bike, weight bench, healthrider and treadmill. another section has the big screen TV and all the furniture, another smaller section has an obnoxiously large air hockey table which I hate, and the other section is a huge empty play area. Eventually we'd like to get a pool table in that area.

My favorite part of the basement is my storage closet. It's 15 feet long and almost 5 feet deep with tons of shelves. We keep all the toys in there as well as some kitchen appliances I rarely use.

I love our basement. One area has built in shelving for storage and for canned goods and a cedar closet for off season clothes, a laundry room, DH's office (we call it the Man Cave!) and an extra family room area with a fireplace. It adds so much space to our home--it's great!

Wow, how I envy all the extra "stuff" you all have!
Although I think I'm probably lucky not to have all that extra storage space. I remember my mom trying to pack our house to move to Florida 16 years ago. She had about 20years worth of junk down in that basement!!

One huge oil tank in a corner, boxes of holiday decorations in another section, our son's boxing bag attached to a huge, ugly metal thing, an old couch, table with four stools, a small refrigerator and microwave oven that our daughter didn't want to take back to college with her, old toys and games, and a LOT of dirt and dust! We're thinking of getting a pool table soon. My daughter wants us to make the basement into her own personal dance studio with mirrors and proper dance flooring. I don't think so!

We're hoping someday to finish off the basement and make it into a few rooms and a bathroom. It would work well because one side has regular size windows and it's a walk out basement with a regular door.
