What's happening 1/9&10/2003 at WDW?

WL is sold out.
There are no campsites.
Only Savannah views at AKL.

Does anyone know what the event is.

The CM at CRO said he didn't know, but it could be the WDW marathon.

I've gone to WDW just before the Marathon for the last 3 years. What's happened every year is that when I first call in July or August, they're all booked up. Then when I call, usually about the end of September or in October, I have a choice of rooms. So, don't give up yet! I think maybe travel agents block off a bunch of rooms, then they get released when they don't sell.

What exactly is the WDW Marathon? I have been trying to get into the CBR October 10th-14th with no luck. Maybe I will try back again in September. Thanks for the tip.

The marathon is in January, not sure what, if anything, is going on in Oct for the dates you are looking for. I would defintely keep trying because I know the airline vacation services (Delta vacations, American Airlines vacations etc.) block off rooms too, and when they release them, a bunch usually open up. I've read many posts saying that people were able to get rooms as soon as 3 days prior to when they wanted to go.

What exactly is the WDW Marathon?

It's a marathon running race....like the Boston Marathon or the NYC Marathon. They run 26.2 miles around "the World".

The Marathon would take some rooms but shouldn't be filling the resort. I think Simba's Mom is probably right that rooms are being held and will probably be released closer to the date.

October 10 - 14 is Columbus Day weekend. Maybe that's why you're having trouble getting a room.

Actually they run both a full marathon and a half-marathon. The half marathon was fully registered as of MARCH 2002 for the Jan 2003 race!

This marathon is considered one of the most fun to run because it runs through all 4 parks - it is also the 10th anniversary year.

I believe on marathon day the parks open a little late(as the marathon is run in the am)

The Sunday of Columbus day weekend is also a pre-marathon 10k race at WDW. (Starting at Epcot)
DH is registered for the 10k and marathon.
This will be his third WDW marathon. The upcoming marathon may be more of a bigger celebration of the marathon since it is the 10th anniversary of this race.
The expo the Saturday before the marathon (January) is at CSR, rather than the World Sports, where it is usually held.
