what should I stay away from???

Any and all comments are welcome.

Thanks.

I like their chicken breast (frozen), their produce, and many other things. I tend to avoid their chili seasoning. Because I have gotten used to a name brand and didn't like their brand. But for the most part, I like everything.:)

I buy canned tomato products, broth, cheese, yogurt, milk, baking stuff and rice. They have huge chocolate bars that are to die for.

The one thing that I didn't like was some ruffly edged pasta, sort of like mini lasagne noodles. It all broke up in the water in a very weird way. I haven't bought meat or produce other than bananas.

I bought one of their cheap(under a buck) pizzas one time and took one bite and tossed it. Most other items are as good as most brands. The only brands I'm loyal to are Heinz ketchup, Miracle Whip, and Diet Coke. Anything else, I'll try generic and generally continue to use.

I bought Chicken tenders there and threw away the whole bag. The breading was really thick and very salty. You are doing the right thing by asking what other people recommend because I really had no luck the few times I shopped there. My boys will eat store brand cereal and they did not like the fake fruit loops or fake honey cheerios. I hope you have better luck.

My son's Nana buys their produce all the time. She always buys hers their and I have never heard her say any of it was not good. I know the watermelons have been good and at $2.99 a bargain.

Produce is VERY expensive here in Tennessee right now, due to a horrible late freeze. Aldi has hands down the best produce prices right now, and they are also very good quality (at least at the store I go to).

Large Honeydew - $.99
Large Cantalope - $.99
8 Kiwis - $.99 (and $.49 last week on an unadvertised sale!)
18lb. Watermelon - $2.99
Veggies are good prices too :)

Boneless/Skinless Chicken Breast - $1.99 everyday price...lower when on sale

Yogurt - $.39/ 8oz. container

Boxed Mac&Cheese - $.27

Generic Nutella - $1.69 - to die for

Milk - $2.69 gallon

I can't remember what else...you really need to know your prices, but some of the items are good deals.

I have just recently started purchasing at Aldi at least monthly. Here is what I will continue to buy:
milk
eggs
bread
jello cups
pudding cups
Aldi's brand of crystal light
tortilla chips
generic spices (salt, pepper)
bananas
shredded cheese
frozen chicken breasts
boxed mac & cheese

What I will not buy & why:
chicken nuggets--too salty & rubbery; worth it to buy Tyson for my little guy
burger patties--rendered too much grease
smoked sausage/ kielbasa--rendered too much grease
hot dogs--rendered too much grease
aldi's brand of nutella--tasted waxy to me
dish detergent--i found i had to use more to do the same thing as the Kirkland brand
garbage bags--tore every time and I had to double bag so not really a savings.

so I will buy things in this order, but not every month: Costco, Aldi, Grocery Store

I find that the produce goes bad quickly. The baked bread and buns never seem soft.

The line to get out of the place is my problem when visiting an Aldi. It is not unusual to have 10-15 people in 1 line with no help.

I really like their maple syrup and I don't usually like generic maple syrups...I'm a Log Cabin fan.

The meat and produce I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole...at least at the Aldi's by me. Our local supermarket, Wegmans has such great produce I'll always buy it there. Once at Aldi's I reached for a packet of bacon and saw that it was all green and moldy on the inside. I was so grossed out that I haven't gotten meat there again.

I like their cereals, their bread, pop tarts, bottled water, canned products.

Hey, Budgeteers....

Don't toss those things that you don't like from Aldi. Return them for their money back gaurentee (or is that spelled guarentee). :woohoo:

I also like their tortilla chips.
They have the best "hot" wings (better than tyson)
The hummus is good too!

Stop throwing away the food you do not like from Aldi and just return it the next time you go. They have a satisfaction guarantee on all of their products. Years ago when I first started going to Aldi I would pick up three to five new things each time until I gave all items I already purchased a try. I did not like their pickles and I returned them and a few other items as well. Now the pickles are different than they were ten years ago. Anyway if your hedging on trying something give it a whirl, your satisfaction is guaranteed.

These prices can't be beat and I buy them regularly:
Parm. cheese
Shredded Moz. cheese
Turkey Bacon
Tortillas
Brown/confectionary sugar
egg noodles
Zip loc bags and garbage bags(I now there is a vote against them, but I swear by them)
Bleach
canned corn and peas, but admittedly I am not picky on these
cream of mushroom soup
Bagels, bread, english muffins
cheese puffs, chips, tortilla chip--yes only store brand quality, but still cheaper than BOGO of our local store brands...
Salsa!!
Oyster cracker/cheese crackers

Lots of things actually. Plus the small layout is so nice and the check outs so speedy.
The produce is hit or miss, but of course you can just look at it and decide. The oranges were sooo cheap compared to other stores this winter.
I don't buy the meats, or really anything frozen, but that's just my preference. Oh the frozen peas are mushy, nasty, yuck. I forgot a couple of times and bought them again. Yuck. I believe its the only thing I have ever thrown out. Oh yeah, the saltines and graham crackers always seem kind of stale....

I totally think it all personal preference.

I've never had any problems taking back food.. I've gotten stuff with mold a time or two.

But, flavor wise, I've always been happy. We use their papertowels, trash bags (another vote for them), laundry detergant, ect...

My DH hates the fake dial soap, but that's the only thing we don't like. I buy 99% of our groceries there.

They are constantly adding more foods too. Like, they just added brown rice, that is wonderful, and a great price.

Some things are great, others not so good and like many others have said it is often a personal preference.

I always stop there first for produce, milk, eggs, chunk cheese, canned veggies and fruit and frozen fruit. Other categories I buy some things but not others - really a trial and error but they do guarantee everything so it is no big deal to return something you don't care for. We also like the frozen breaded chicken breast patties and hot wings. I don't care for any of the bakery products I have tried and we don't care for the seasonings as much in some of the canned sauces. I didn't think the pepperoni or parmesan cheese were very good but again, personal preference.

Truthfully I prefer their canned corn to many of the expensive name brands and we absolutely love their whipped yogurt!

My mom is really turned off by the open box style of stocking and just has a mental thing about the store. My bil thinks shopping there is only for low class people and he wouldn't be caught dead in there but I know better.

BTW, I know of several local bed & breakfasts that do alot of their shopping at aldi's.

I love the mini powdered donuts! We also enjoy the bagles and regular bread from there too. My grandma loves the pies from Aldi. My mom shops there on a regular basis, and I would too if I had one close to me. Good Luck!
