What's good at Akershus lunch?

I have looked at the menu for the Akershus lunch. We're going there for lunch on our next trip. For those of you that have been there, what did you eat that you enjoyed? I'm allergic to raspberries so I don't know if that makes a difference. I was looking at the soup and salmon sandwich, which looked good to me. And also the pasta with pesto and salmon looked good. How are the appetizers on the cold table and the desserts?

My mom and I had lunch at Akershus in November and we had sort of mixed opinions about it. I loved the cold buffet! Mom, not so much. Buffet had smoked salmon, two kinds of herring (one pickled, one in a tomato sauce) that were delicious, some cold cuts, a couple of different kinds of cheese (muenster and maybe swiss? definitely try the caramel cheese!) and lots of yummy salads: cucumber salad, beet salad, potato salad.

Entrees were disappointing, though. I had the venison sausage with some kind of bean stew, and I thought it tasted like canned hotdogs and baked beans. Just... oddly seasoned. (And I'm a pretty adventurous eater, so it wasn't just that I thought the flavors were new or different... I just thought they were boring and yucky.) Mom got the kjottkake and we both thought that was also sort of disappointing. I wound up just getting a second plate of salmon and herring and salads from the buffet, and left full and happy.

Desserts were awesome! The chocolate mousse cake and the rice pudding with strawberries were both worthy of a good plate-licking. Unfortunately, the promised lingonberry cheesecake was replaced with an apple pie dish that was just good, but not great.

I'd go back for the buffet and the desserts... but if the idea of the items on the buffet don't appeal to you, you might want to consider skipping it. I think it's worth a try, though!

Thanks for the input! The buffet items all sound wonderful. All of us love smoked salmon and herring. The only thing I don't like is beets, but I will skip that one for sure!

I'm glad the desserts are good too! I love my desserts. Like I had said in my original post, as far as entrees, I was looking at the pasta dish with salmon or the soup and sandwich (which has salmon also). My mom would probably go for one of those as well. We both love fish and seafood.

The children will be happy with the children's choices, and just to see the characters! Even though I have boys, they will only be 3 and 5 when we go, and they know many of the princesses and like them from the movies (Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin). We're also going to dinner in the castle one night. My 2 nieces will be with us for both of those meals and they love the princesses, and we decided that we will all go together. Plus, DH and I are curious about Akershus anyway for the food, and I think while my boys are still little we should take advantage of the opportunity to go. When they are older they will probably not want to go near princesses!! :)
