What's going on with gas on the east coast?

We drive home from Orlando on Friday, 15 hour drive, and will need to stop for gas a couple times. DH is hearing something about gas not getting to the east coast because of some hack.

In NC the prices are going up and stations are running out of gas. Mostly probably becuse morons are filling up tons of huge gas cans to stockpile. We are hearing that things should be back to normal by Friday, but of course I leave Thursday morning to drive to Florida so I am wishing we were flying right about now. Sigh.

Ours went up high before hack. According to Forbes: Since last November 3, the average price per gallon of regular gasoline in the U.S. has skyrocketed by 75 cents. The markets clearly see the new administration as one that will work to inhibit U.S. oil production, which will also have the effect of tightening the global market, and traders have responded by driving up the price of crude oil;

Prices have been rising simply because more people are traveling and there is increased demand. It has nothing to do with the administration.

My friend who lives in Atlanta just posted that the gas station near her is capping at max $20 per car.

Prices up 30-40 cents a gallon on the south side of Atlanta (I-75). A number of stations on my way home were out of gas. If you are traveling through the southeast right now, you may want to fill up sooner rather than later or if you find a place. (Not trying to be dramatic, but worry about non locals/thru travelers finding a place not too far off the interstate and I’m also a person who waits to the last minute to fill up!). Hopefully this will be short lived.

Prices dropped drastically from March to November with everything closed. I had an old receipt in my car from 1/1/20 and 1/1/21 was about the same.

Southwest VA small town and only 1 pump had gas this evening after 5. Cars lined up forever. Heard similar throughout NC.

It's really crazy how things bump up gas prices! I'm in California and pay between $3.90 to $6.00 a gallon depending on where I am! hope you all have good luck with your gas prices and availability! Drive safely!

Just north of Atlanta there are a lot of gas shortages. Husband went to 9 different stations with no gas. Had to go home and use the gas for the lawnmower as he was on empty.

East Tennessee- I went to fill up today since I was at 1/8 of a tank, and learned about this after the first station I went to said they were out. At the second station there was a line and people were filling up extra cans.

NC resident here. Just drove back from WDW yesterday. Had zero issues stopping to get gas along 95 and stopped twice. I live outside of Raleigh, I passed 5 gas stations this morning while running errands, and they were all normal. I can’t imagine much has changed on 95 between 1 am this morning and now

I'm outside of Raleigh too and there have been long lines for gas today. I was on empty and had to get gas and waited about 25 min in line for it.
