We were looking into booking either the Disneyland Hotel or Grand Californian at the end of Sept and it's totally booked. For some reason the last week (and weekend) is also more expensive than the two weeksprior.

Is there an obvious reason for this that we don't know about? Is there something big going on at the end of Sept?

We're going to be there..that's big. just kidding.

The Halloween celebration starts earlier this year, that could be the reason for the booked hotels.
The Haunted Mansion opens on the 21st of Sept, whereas last year it opened on the 29th but now I'm a little concerned that it will be crowded.

Look for my lime green Mickey!

That could be part of it. We were quite shocked when the screen popped up and said both hotels were totally booked. I would have thought the end of Septemeber would be slower and it would get busy around Halloween.

Anyway, for now it looks like we will not be going. We wanted to stay at the Grand Cal (or the Disneyland Hotel) but according to the sites we have seen they're booked solid on Sept 28 and 29th and more expensive than the weeks before.

I might be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that there's a convention during that time. I'll be there the same weekend, but I'm hoping the parks won't be too bad. Even if they are, as long as you know the fast pass system, you'll be fine. :)

I wonder if it's also the 4th Night Free promotion? I was just checking on getawaytoday.com, and the name of the promo popped up. I know that the 4th Night Free promo caused me to add a day and pay another $300 to leave the Carousel and get a room at PP 2 weeks before your dates...so I'm sure it could have caused the same in others!

Also, I forgot to mention that the AP rates are for that time frame too.
We got a great rate for PPH.
We were going to stay at Park Vue Inn but cancelled after we got the same price for PPH.
