What's Club 33?

We're WDW veterans, but total novices when it comes to DL. I've seen references made to Club 33, but I can't seem to find any info about it. What is it - can anyone help?
Also, is it true that Fantasmic won't even be shown during early April 2003? Is it a seasonal thing at DL?

Club 33 is a private club inside Disneyland. The entrance is a door next to the Blue Bayou that has a plaque simply saying "33" (not the other buildings in tha area all have "addresses" keeping in with this numbering scheme).

If a member or a guest, you ring the bell and give the name of your party. You are then buzzed in and enter the foyer. You can either take the vstairs or the small private elevator Walt bought in Europe (most take the elevator).

Upstairs (which is next to the Disney Gallery) is the club. Walt memrobilia hangs on the walls. There are neat little things about, like a very early animatronic buzzard (it just perches there now) and even hanging chandeliers with microphones (an idea Walt had to see when people might want a waiter, who would then magically appear - never used though as was later realized people might not appreciate the eavesdropping!).

They serve dinner and a wonderful brunch on Sundays (and Saturdays during holidays). Everything you could want!

The price alsob includes a one-day park hopper pass.

Of course you must be a member (which I think is something like $10,000 plus $1,000/year) or be the guest of a member.

The club was originally designed as a private place for the 33 orginal sponsors of Disneyland.

If you ever get the chance - go!

Thanks MrShiny for the great explanation. I'd love to see this on our trip next spring, but I'm afraid the $10,000 membership fee is a little (no a LOT) beyond my budget! Wish I knew a member we could accompany in order to visit this. Oh well, I kind of feel like we've got the 'scoop' just knowing such a thing exists. Guess we'll just have to dream about it! Thanks again!

Based on last years schedule..... Fantasmic was not restarted until the middle of June 2002 and it goes through Nov 2.

I guess anything is possible, but I wouldn't count on it being back until June.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of Club 33, Steve. Lucky you to get to go in and experience it! I think your pictures are probably as close as I'll ever get - it's so interesting just knowing this place exists! Thanks again!

Glad I could help. Who knows. Some day you may go inside.

Aloha

Steve

My sister just invited us to go to Club 33 for dinner in 2 weeks. We just returned from 10 days in Orlando, so I am excited to just take in the sites (instead of searching for the ultimate ride). Is there a dress code for Club 33? Do they have food for the kids?
She actually won this in a silent auction thru her school. ONe of the parents is a member and donates a dinner for 8 at the club including passes to get into the parks.

Can't wait to go. Sounds like a lot of fun.

There is not a dress code but it is not that kid friendly.

Lucky You!

Actually, I have to disagree about it not being kid friendly - I'd love to have an adult only meal there some day - but we have been there with our 4 children twice and it was great - in fact if you ask my oldest what she likes best about disneyland... club 33 is right up there at the top of her list!
I do review rules of behavior before we go and we don't allow the kids to go to the buffet without an adult - but they all love it there.
In fact, last time we went - there were several characters there and they spent lots of time at our table - it was great!

I have been there twice and never seen characters there.

That must have been cool!

No dress code at all.

It is DEFINITELY kid friendly, I have seen plenty of kids there the three times I have been there.

I have never seen characters either, but Michael Eisner was there one time...does that count? ;)

Enjoy! :)

I have only been lucky enough to have been there once, but there were several kids eating who looked like they were having a good time. We were so lucky a couple of years ago to meet a couple while standing in line for Soaring Over California who both worked for FedEx. We got to talking with them and eventually grabbed something to eat later with them. They told us that through the FedEX corporate membership they got to go to Club 33 fairly regularly. When they found out we would be returning in a few months for a business trip they arranged to take us to lunch at Club 33 on our return visit. Never did I think I would ever be lucky enough to visit so it really was a dream come true.

I have had two different experiences at Club 33. The first time I went there with kids (a 3 year old and a 6 month old) it was great. There were lots of other kids there and Mickey and Minnie came up and interacted with us and the kids and we had a great time. I even signed up to be put on the waiting list for membership after that trip. The second time that we went with kids....it was a disaster. The crowd was mostly old, snobby types. The waitress sort of shrugged and sighed when she saw the kids and put us in the back. Everytime the baby would make even the slightest noise she would run over and "politely" ask if she needed anything. (You could tell it wasn't from the heart...it was to shut her up) We received many disgusted looks from the other diners and didn't get any of the usual "Oh, isn't she cute" from anyone. We ended up walking out! I walked out of Club 33! (Oh, they still charged me full price of course...) I don't know why the big difference in treatment from one trip to the other. Both trips were during the day and we had the lunch buffet. Maybe it's because the first time was a weekend day and the second time was a weekday. The weekday crowd seemed more "business" and "regulars" and the weekend crowd seemed more family and visitors. I can tell you this though, I'm not going back with kids....not for $300 a trip I'm not (The cost for five of us for food, drinks and tip.). I also removed my name from the waiting list. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth for the Club. I wanted to stand up in the middle of lunch and just say "Hey everyone...did you forget you were at DISNEYLAND?? Disneyland is a kids place!"

We won't be going back to Club 33 anymore. Give me the Blue Bayou anyday!

Roy

P.S. I always had a great time when I went without kids, so this gripe is only with the way we were treated with little kids.
