FYI, this is my first post but I've been lurking for awhile. My wife and I took the tour in Feb when we last visited and were almost sold. Cooler heads prevailed and we decided to wait until financially we could handle this better.

Now only 7 months later, we've decided that we are going to buy in, most likely at SSR (took me awhile to get used to the abbreviations :earsboy: ).

Now that you have the background, here's my question. We'd like to stay at various resorts when we go. Is MS(?Member Services?) helpful in finding available rooms? For example, if we decide to call at the seven month window wanting to stay at the Beach Club but find out there is no availability, can I ask, well, well, can you tell me what my choices are if I want a two bedroom villa?

Man, I hope that makes sense. I don't do this posting stuff very much. I like the cool little smileys though! ::MickeyMo

I can answer from personal experience that "yes" they will do this for you. I recently called with a single date in mind and asked "what have you got?" They were so great about looking through available inventory to find and offer me several different options - and very friendly and helpful about it to boot.

Hope this helps!

I've found MS to be very helpful at looking across the family of resorts to find you the right rooms to meet your request.

We just joined DVC last month. I've called MS about 5 times already for various things: checking to see if I was in the system about a week after closing, calling to make reservations and even changing one set of reservations two times! They seem to be about the most genuinely friendly and helpful people you can imagine, even though I ask a lot of newbie type questions that they must have answered hundreds of times already.

I haven't asked the specific question you mention because I've managed to get exactly what I wanted when I called to make reservations. But, I would imagine this situation comes up a lot, so I can't imagine that they would have any problem doing that for you.

Just posting to say Welcome to the DVC Board - I think it's kind of special when someone uses his first post here. FWIW (For What It's Worth), your first post made perfect sense.

Best wishe s-

WELCOME to the DVC/DIS, and hope you post lots more questions. No question is a bad one if you need the answer to it. Hope we can all be of help again.

The smilies are one of my favorite parts of the DISboards!

When my computer :badpc: cooperates, I can get into the "more" section and really get creative. Lately, if I go to "more" my computer crashes, so it's really cramping my style! :confused3

Welcome to the DISboards & DVC!

Tom, you mean you don't have the codes for all the smilies memorized yet? :rolleyes1

And BTW, Welcome to DIS kahnverse!

MS will help you any way they can. When I called to make my ressies and my first choice was not available (std view studio at BWV) I asked what was available and they just asked me which ones I wanted them to check. I asked them to look at BCV, OKW and SSR (and within a few seconds they told me that all 3 of those were available, but then I just opted to get on the auto-confirm waitlist for BWV). :goodvibes

Again, welcome aboard and let us know if you have any other questions!

One suggestion though for you would be to be cautious when booking at peak times. I was trying to book my first ressie for spring break and while I was having MS look around, what I originally called on (and was told there was availability) was taken while I was on the phone!!! It took a supervisor to come back over and get me in, but it is a lesson I learned. So now, I book day by day at MS opening for holiday times, and once it is in there, I may see what else is available. Good luck and welcome to the DIS!!!

Welcome to the DIS boards! :wave2:
We hope you have many more questions, that's what we're here for.

I have always found MS to be very helpful and pleasant to talk to. Truly, I have never encountered what I would consider to be a "bad" MS CM(cast member). I have encountered some that don't know how to "work" the computer system quite as well as others, but they were always very willing to spend as much time as was necessary to get me the info I wanted.

We just joined as well and have called to check any resorts but the one we own at. This is only because we have stayed at OKW on rented points and wanted to stay somewhere else.

MS was very accommodating and when it was 5:30 which is their closing time, I suggeted I call back and the nice gentleman on the other end was very patient and suggested we complete what I needed so I didn't have to call back.

So the answer to your question is yes, they will help you with whatever you need.

Member Services will definitely help you.

You can save some time if you first prioritize your list. This will help them look for availability in the same order you're interested.

EG: 1st choice: BoardWalk Villas Standard Studio
2nd choice: Old Key West Studio
3rd choice: Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa Studio

BTW, WH, (By the Way, WELCOME HOME)

P.S.: You can find the list of common abbreviations used here on the DISboards on this page: http://www.wdwinfo.com/abbreviations.htm

Welcome and HI!

We bought at SSR (through Disney) back in 2003 and will be taking our first trip home at the end of November. First, I wish we would have bought back in 1999 when we were married. Second, I wish I would have know about these boards and the Timeshare store BEFORE I bought DVC.

I like that I'll get the full 50yrs of use by purchasing SSR, but I probably could have bought it for a cheaper price by going through the Timeshare store (their link is at the top of the page). Also, if you'd like to purchase at a different resort, the Timeshare store has quite a few contracts up for sale. I plan on using them to purchase at VWL one of these days (VWL is my favorite resort).

Good luck with your decision and WELCOME.

P.S. I've found MS to be GREAT to work with and I've had good results using the waitlist (just be sure to book at your home resort at 11 months so that you are guaranteed a place to stay). If you can't get what you want at 7 months, you can go on a waitlist at as many resorts as you want at the same time. MS makes this really easy and seem glad to help.

Just waned to thank everyone for their responses. As I suspected, you were all very helpful.
