Whats a Zip Lock Bag

I keep reading about everyone putting a daily change of clothes into zip lock bags for Kids. This sounds like a great idea but.........

being from England I haven't a clue what they are. Could someone please enlighten me!

It is a plastic storage bag that when you close it - it makes a tight seal and it comes in various sizes. We purchase them from the grocery stores where that plastic wrap is sold.

its just a sandwich/freezer bag that seals at the top by pressing the 2 sides together. You can get them here in all the supermarkets, they just aren't ziplock brand - I have some from Safeways and they are just called 'Resealable Food and Freezer bags'

the one thing that we can't get is the massive sized ones - I know from Scrapbooking that Ziplock do some very large sized bags - I am not sure that our largest size freezer bag would hold a change of clothes, but you could always try and if not, you could use them for food.

If you go into a shop that sells office files, paperwork and equipment you should be able to buy them there. I found them in a local office supply shop and they had all different size bags with zips.

The thing about ziplock bags is, you can put an outfit in them (adult sized too, if you can find the big ones - we got some at Target), push all the air out, seal and have much more room in your suitcase, just like those vacumn bags you see on home shopping channels or infomercials. Just much cheaper.

Ziploc bags are great!! Especially nowadays with baggage screeners going thru your luggage and handling all your unmentionables!
I started using them just for items that might leak during the flight, but since, have used the large 2 1/2 gallon ones to pack our my clothes. I put as much clothes as I can fit, sit on it to press all the air out and then quickly zip it closed. You can't imagine the room they free up in the suitcase.
Not to mention you can keep the dirty clothes separated from the clean (if there are any) on the trip home.

Zip lock bags are great if you go during warm months and clothes are light. For bulkier clothes though, I like to use the zippered clear plastic bags that sheets and comforters are packaged in.
