Whats a necessity?

I'm going to college in the fall (I got into my top choice, yay!) and my future room mate and I have been apartment hunting and found one for 300.00 a month. Water is included, but thats all. We'll need internet, because i'm going to be in college (he won't be) and I think the cheapest way to get that is going to be getting the cable/internet package, right? And we'll need electricity (obviously lol) but what else is a necessity when getting a first apartment?
