What's a great TS near the Hollywood Studios?

We're not interested in any of the TS inside the Studios. We've eaten at Mama Melrose twice and won't go back again. Hated it both times. Not interested in any of the other TS inside the Studios.

We'll be at the Studios for 2 days. One day, we'll eat at Cape May. YUM! :cool1:

We will not have park hoppers, so it needs to be at a resort or DTD. We would like it to be near-ish to the Studios, so as not to waste too much time going there and back. (Disney transportation)

Where would you suggest? Thanks for your help.:goodvibes

Kouzzina at the Boardwalk. Delicious dinner for us. Take the boat from DHS or walk.

Yeah, the ts options at the Studios don't do much for us... sometimes Mama's or 50"s PT are good, sometimes not. We also (see above poster) take the boat over to the Boardwalk and go to Kouzzina. I have heard that Flying Fish over there is also very good, but DD isn't a seafood fan so we have never tried it.

Of course, if you have park hopper passes, you can take the boat right over to the International Gateway and have dinner at Epcot!

IMO, you'll be hard pressed to beat Hollywood Brown Derby. Is it 2 TS credits that you don't want? FF & YSH are also 2 TS, so I'd personally stay in DHS & go to HBD. We think the food is every bit as good. Swan/Dolphin have some great options, but they don't accept DDP. If you're paying OOP, you could try one of their restaurants. If you're only looking for 1 TS @ BW or DTD, your options are more limited. I usually don't make this recommendation, but in this case, I really would just choose the menu I thought looked best. Quality will be about the same in any of the 1 TS DDP restaurants at those locations.

Hmm, looked at the menu for Kouzzina. Not sure if it's very appealing to any of us. Then I read the thread about Kouzzina and the opinions were very mixed. Still thinking on that one.....

On the DDP and definitely looking for just 1TS options and will not have park-hoppers (otherwise we'd gladly run over to Epcot).

We've never been to 50's PTC, but the menu there looks very good. I've have to say the thing that puts me off of that one is the "bossing around" stuff I've heard. :scared1: I'm really shy and my kids are, too. DH said he'd play along, but he knows how uncomfortable that would be for us. How bad is it? Are they pretty aggressive or is it just fun?

DH and I have taken the boat from DHS to the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club. We did it at lunch but have also enjoyed dinner there. It's a nice break from the park and easy to do on the boat. We've done the same thing from EPCOT.

No love here for any of the 1 TS DHS locations; Sci Fi is fun as an oop snack stop but not a full dinner.

From DHS, take the boat to the Epcot area resorts. We particularly like the Cape May dinner. It is a buffet but no characters. One side has 'classic American' food: chicken, ribs, carving station with roast meat, normal sides. The other side of the buffet is seafood. Endless crab legs (and a ginormous urn of melted butter) are always included. The desserts are OK too; the Oreo bon-bon is a specialty of the house.

Another good option in the BC/YC resort complex is Captain's Grill. Check out the menu on allears. This is one of the locations that has a prix-fixe option for those on the regular DDP; so long as you pick from the (more limited) choices you can have an appetizer as well as your entree and dessert.

Or get off the boat at the Boardwalk; in addition to Kouzzina's it also has the ESPN place and the Big River Grille.

The boat runs both directions; after dinner you can take the boat back to DHS if you're going to try to catch F! or just see if the TSM line has calmed down a little (hint: shortly before park close, the wait time on TSM doesn't seem to get updated - it may still read 60 minutes but the wait is more like 15-20). No hoppers needed to return to the same park same day.

Thanks for the ideas!

Captain's Grille sound VERY good to all of us. We will be going to Cape May on our other DHS day. We LOOOOOOVE Cape May! Well all of us do except DH, but he's agreeable to go back, thank goodness! When we went back to DHS after Cape May last year, the TSM was still realllllly long, but we liked it.

So, how about the interaction at 50s PTC? Do they embarrass the crud out of people or is it low-key. Low-key I MIGHT be able to handle, but not more than that. Thinking the Captain's Grille is where we'll probably end up, but I'd like to hear a little bit about 50's PTC. Any opinions?

I don't think you can predict the level of interaction. We have experienced over the top, and barely any.

You could ride the bus over to Boma or Olivias at Old Key West and check out a resort for awhile.

In the Boardwalk area, I like Kouzzina, the Flying Fish Café, Shula's, Kimonos, Bluezoo and the Big River Grille. I also have a suspicion that I will like Il Mulino very much. We're trying it for the first time on our next visit. All of these places are varied in price and menu offerings, so I suggest looking over the menus. I also have to strongly recommend the Hollywood Brown Derby. It's not just the only worthwhile dining option in Hollywood Studios. It's actually very good.
