My DD4 has sensative skin, and has had issues in the past w/suntan lotions. We tried banana boat, and she broke out from that. Then we tried Coppertone..last year seemed to be ok, just didn't use it much, but the other day I tried the spf 50 one and she was a little red. Should I use a lower spf? or a different brand?

I'm HIGHLY allergic to sunscreen (which is a pretty rare allergy). Nutragena is the one that I have the least problems with.

Neutragena is the one I use as well. It works very well, and it doesn't cause me to break out at all.

Neutragena is also what I used to use on my kids when they were little and had problems with sunscreen breaking them out.

Another vote for Neutrogena......
If that's not available, I think the key is looking for something that's PABA free - that's the ingredient that seems to be an issue for sensitive skin and many sunscreens (in addition to Neutrogena) note "PABA free" on the packaging.

Blue Lizard Baby and Vanicream SPF60 both work well on sensitive skin. They are all physical sunscreens with good UV protection.

Even the Neutrogena breaks me out. :guilty:

Look for a sunscreen that is mostly Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide. Target used to make one last year (came in a little tub) but I haven't seen it this year. It is basically invisible zinc oxide. These are physical sunscreens versus chemical sunscreens plus zinc oxide is soothing to the skin.

At Kohl's, their All Calm makeup line has a very gentle sunscreen (only SPF 25). It is 12.99 a tube and would be pricey to use all over the body, but you could try it on the face which, I find, is the most sensitive.

Argh! Neutrogena SPF55 was on sale last week at Rite Aid & I didn't get it. They only had the SPF30 in stock. I looked at the tube, knowing I could exchange it later (unopened) when they had the SPF55 in stock. (Rite Aid is always out of everything when on sale. ) But, I just wasn't sure how it would affect my sensitive skin, so I let it pass. :(

My daughter was/is sensitive too, Bullfrog Kid's was the best we found.

Another vote for BullFrog....spf 36 Quick Gel Sport Spray....worked great on ds10 - everything else gave him hives/welts all over!

My DS has very sensative skin since he's been born, he's 19 now and he still has to wash all his clothes/towels in Ivory Liquid and he uses Lancomb sunscreen, it's the only one that doesn't make him have a rash. They make one for the body and one for the face/ and eye area. I found it when he was a toddler and he still using it. It's about $28 a bottle, but it lasts a long time. It's an expensive one, but if all else fails you may want to give it a try.

Is she allergic to artificial sweeteners, novocaine, sulfa medicines or cinnamon flavorings used in foods or things like toothpaste? If so, it may be a "cinnamate" allergy. Look for ingredents that end in 'cinnamate' they are the most common allergy triggers.
