I'm out looking for new clothes this weekend which is no easy task. I've lost quite a bit of inches and tired of hiking up shorts and pants and pinning dresses and nice shirts.:thumbsup2

Anyways, it's hard to be fat and short and not well endowed. I tried capris on that made me look like I was wearing high waters. The bermuda shorts sort of looked like capris and the teeny tiny shorts just made me look like a fat hooker. The shirts fit in the waist but hang to my knees in the chest. Things that fit in the chest are still half a size too small in the stomach. I hate being between sizes too! What's a girl to do for clothes?!!?

any suggestions, horror stories or tears of sympath will be accepted and appreciated just no pictures please;)

I have no answer, but TONS Of sympathy.

I am EXTREMELY short, you probably would like like a giant standing next to me, and VERY well endowed. I don't know which is worse, your situation or mine ...

I lost 60 pounds since January and nothing fits, nothing. I hear you on the shorts looking like capris, the shorts looking like hookers.

I find a piece of clothing here and a piece there. I wish I knew where to shop as well. I used to like shopping. I went out this weekend for clothes and bought 3 purses and 3 pairs of shoes :rotfl:. At least i have that, but clothing to go with it would be nice.

Hi stranger! Haven't seen you around in forever. Good to see you:hug: In my shopping spree I bought 2 new pairs of shoes, 3 purses and 2 new belts. Maybe I'll just be dazzle my safety pins that are holding my old clothes together:laughing:It's hard to go clothes shopping and I love to shop.

I feel for you. I admit now I shop at stores where they do tailoring in-store and easy length changes are done for free. Places like Nordstrom and Buckle for me have been super helpful.

When I buy I make sure I put in the amount for tailoring in the budget. Once you do a few items you can learn what's worth the cost of altering and what is not.

I used to be short and fat and I remember the issues then. Now I'm short and average with a big chest and big rear end. Makes shopping really hard too. I admit to wearing skirts and not shorts anymore for the exact issues you brought up with wearing them. Skirts are more forgiving ;)

Well, all I can advise is to buy a few basic pieces (solids, not patterns) that fit where you want them to (the waist?) and then have the other sections (bust or length) altered. If you get basics, then you can wear them over and over and nobody knows you are wearing the same thing.....change the accessories.

I have a gut. I don't have much chest! I have purchased some things in the past from Lane Bryant (mostly camisoles). The regular blouses are always HUGE in the chest and I don't fill it out. So I know what you mean.

When I was losing weight, I bought a few jeans, had them made into capris. Bought several plain tops. Wear a different necklace, earrings, scarf, etc and no one knows!

I feel your pain. I cannot offer any suggestions. The people who make clothes just don't seem to care. And the prints they make in larger sizes. :scared1: Just don't give up. Somewhere out there has to something to wear!

I shop at Talbot's womens store. They have sizes from 12W on up and also have them in petite sizes to (12wp and on up) They realized that you may be a plus size woman and short. Where I shop, the Talbots has a misses store next door. I go to the misses store to get my shirts, then the womens side to get my pants.

Though Talbots can be a bit pricey, they tend to run good sales in the summer. Also, I have found the clothes from there last a long time, so I get my money worth.

You have my sympathies, too. I've been on Weight Watchers for 3 months and I'm losing weight in all the wrong places:rolleyes: I'm short too, about 5'3". Petites sizes are waaaaaayy to small, but the right lengths. Regular sizes are too long and don't fit right. And I've just about lost enough to forget Lane Bryant. I don't really want to invest in a lot of large sizes because i'm hoping & working hard to get down to a more reasonable size by Thanksgiving.

I dunno what to tell you. Maybe we should just wrap ourselves in sheets and tie them off with ribbons. Tell everyone its the newest summer fashion trend.

I don't have any real advice either, just sympathy. I am also short and fat but am well endowed. And I have really wide shoulders. And I just lost 25 pounds. But trying to buy new clothes is so depressing that I am still wearing my old ones and I just keep hiking them up!

I did find some woman's petite sizes at a JC Penney and was able to get a couple pairs of capris that fit for summer. I won't wear short shorts. I need dress pants for work - those aren't so bad since I can buy regular sizes and have them shortened. I work with an awesome person who will hem for us non-domestic types!

You're now living in Northern VA, so you have a wonderful Talbots Outlet store close by. They sell women's petit sizes. My suggestion for someone still working on losing weight (like me) is long gypsy type skirts with an elastic waist. I've found these skirts fit many sizes and are much cooler and more comfortable than shorts.

I have had that happen too lol. I feel like that one stick lady commercial where the husband gets skinny but she is still plump just less endowed. My husband can't tell you that I'm smaller in the waist but I bet he could almost tell you to the inch how much smaller I am in the endowed butt and bosom area:rotfl:

I will vent with you and just say....what is it with this Bermuda shorts trend? Is there anyone in real life who does NOT look shorter and fatter in those things? And oh yea, let's make them in the boldest possible prints, plaids and stripes just to highlight the 6 inches they add to your hips and butt. I'm no supermodel by any means, but I look SO much better in the shorter shorts than in the long ones.

You're working out, right Tina? I remember you saying you were jogging. I bet you look a lot better in the shorter shorts than you think you do.

I lost some weight too and some of it came from up top. I had to point out to DH, "you know those ARE just made of fat."

I'm with you! Did you get to see my long vent about the lack of sleeves on plus size shirts?

I shopped in 15 stores before finally finding a couple of acceptable casual tops. FIFTEEN!!!! It ended up being CJ Banks. But even so, I only found 2 there.

I like longer shorts, but not bermudas -- they're a bit snug fitting, aren't they? I like the longer cargo shorts they had out a couple of years ago. They are loose fitting and come just below the knee, and have a couple of side pockets. They're not totally attractive on me, but I like how they fit.

But I'm still in search of the perfect top. :sad2:

I know exactly what you mean. I went into Avenue on Saturday and everything was plaid Bermuda shorts. Really? My butt has its own area code - why on earth would I even walk by a rack of plaid Bermuda shorts??

And my body is completely out of proportion. My bottom half (butt and hips) are about a size 16/18. My top half is a size 12/14. Nearly impossible to fit.

Man, it _IS_ tough, isnt it?! I am very tall and have VERY broad shoulders and have a large frame, but am not endowed, at all. I go to buy a shirt that fits my big, broad shoulders and then there's a cavern where they think my chest should be! :lmao: The material just hangs down like a big empty shopping bag! It's loooovely - not. Pants are almost as bad. I try on ones that fit my waist and go around, but then they have these 'pouches' that stick out on the side that they've added to accomodate your hips....I dont really have hips ... (Basically, I'm a big, broad stick figure - ie, no shape, but big. :headache:) Don't even get my started on trying to find a bra!!!! (because, appearantly, if you are 38 inches around you are supposed to be a D cup, minimum!!)

I second Talbot's petite. They do have some larger sizes. For cheap stuff, Woman Withing has petites that are a couple of inches shorter. I'm shortish too and I hate that clothes are often NOT the right length.

I would love to be 5'3" I am only 4'8" short and fat. Nothing fits at all. I don't look for clothes, I just make due with what I have and they are all getting really old. We just don't have the money for me to get specialized or tailored clothes.

MushyMushy- Totally with you on all the plus size sleeveless shirts! What is the deal with that. Do they ALL have to be sleeveless? It is quite annoying.

Va-Bear - I understand about you as well, I am broad in the shoulders and 5'11 and have the same problem with you in the Bra Dept. Its CRAZY, you know what amazes me though that all these designer shows, could'nt someone go on there and design beautiful clothes for us ladies and men too!

I work out, not insanely but I work out and being inbetween sizes stink too!!

I wish I had the savy because I would start my own Plus Size clothing line for women and men! Why can't we look hip and hot too!
