I have always thought that 'bum bag' was an odd name for them as they don't sit near the bum - well mine doesn't, but then I don't like the term fanny pack either!!!!

LOL! I think the name comes from their original use for sportsmen and women who do wear them with the bag bit at the back (near the bum ) to keep them out of the way for cycling, skiing, etc.
It's only really since they've been used more for general / recreational uses that people started turning them around to have the contents accessible at the front. Mind you, 'belly bag' would sound even worse, wouldn't it?!
Further to the above, I initially put 's******' instead of chortle, (word to giggle, rhymes with tigger), but that got censored as it contains a rude word.....but 'fanny' was left uncensored
