Hi everyone :goodvibes
I am going to Las Vegas next week and believe it or not, I'm not looking forward to it. I've never been there before, but I have been to Atlantic City a few times. I always wind up playing the slot machines. I tried playing blackjack, and it was all right, but I am really dreading this trip. We have a trip to Disney planned for the end of September, and I would much rather take that cash and use it then.
I visit the spa here at home, so I'm not interested in any sort of Spa Day. I don't like spending lotsa money on designer duds, and I hear there's lots of designer boutiques in the big hotels there. I Do Not enjoy lounging around the pool sweating myself thin....
Besides going out for fancy dinners at night, which I'm looking forward to, what else can I do without leaving "The Strip"? We are not renting a car so I can't do any sight seeing if it's not local. We are going with two other couples. The men have an afternoon planned where they're gonna go out to some firing range and shoot off some Big Guns.... I'm interested in that! But Hubby says I should stay back and have a Spa Day with the girls....
what can I do :confused3

Why are you going then?

Get out, see the sights, walk the strip! ...not your thing .....spend the day in bed reading a good book!

We're going because our close friend just retired from the NYPD. In lieu of a party, his wife paid for the Vegas Vacation because it's one of his favorite spots. So we didn't have to pay for the flight or the room at The Hotel Mandalay Bay. We just have to bring spending money. Of course, I'm not gonna be a downer, hell, it's a free trip to someplace I've never been before!

But I just don't know how I'll keep myself, a Disney Addict, occupied. popcorn::
That's why I'm looking for ideas

At your hotel is a great pool!!!
and a good shark tank to see. Next door at the Luxor is the human body show(if you're not squmish). Next hotel is Excaliber, they have a dinner show with jousting. next is Ny NY hotel, great dining there too and a wonderful roller coaster... there's a ton of things to do and see. The list continues...

Ann :flower3:

You're on a roll, don't stop!!

I purchased a book on everything to do in Vegas, but my friend, the guy that's retiring, "borrowed" it and I haven't seen it since!
Plus I'm in school right now and the last thing these eyes can take is more reading -
So keep the suggestions coming!

Watch the fountains at the Bellagio.
See the Volcano at the Mirage.
Watch the Sirens of TI battle pirates.
Stay indoors as much as possible, or use taxis. It's gonna be HOT!!!!!!!!
Across from the Excalibur is New York, New York. Ride the roller coaster.
Across from that (diagonal to Excalibur) is MGM. Just walk around.
And on the fourth corner is the Tropicana - see the birds; see the free entertainment in the casino.

But, first, I'd insist on going to the firing range!

I'm leaving for Vegas next Saturday and getting married on Sunday. You and your husband could renew your vows --- have Elvis there!

Mandalay Bay has one the best pools in Vegas. I've never been there, but I think it has real sand, a wave pool, and a lazy river.

The fountains at the Bellagio are amazing and completely free.

See a Cirque de Soliel show, or go tot he half-off ticket booth and get tickets to the cheesiest show they have.

You could go an a half day tour to the Hoover Dam, Red Rocks, or the Valley of Fire. Most of the tour companies pick up right at your hotel.

Go downtown to Freemont Street one night. You have to take a cab, but it is really fun for an evening.

We stayed at THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay when we got married in Vegas. I really loved that hotel. The rooms are huge. You get two bathrooms.

There's a nice shopping area between Mandalay and Luxor. We like the casino at Luxor better because DH loves the video poker bar.

There are tons of restaurants on that block. The pool at Mandalay is fantastic.

I think you will have a good time, especially if you are with friends.

I will post some pics later.

You can daydream in the shoppes in the Wynn - Graff (where D. Trump bought his wife's engagement ring), Rolex, Cartier, etc... or there is a "real" mall across from there - Fashion Show Mall, or something... it has Macy's, etc.

There are tons of things to see and do. I do not gamble but I have fun in Vegas. Go visit the hotels on the strip. Visit the Effel Tower, see the lions at MGM, the fountains at the Bellagio at night are fantatic, Fremont Street downtown to see the light show, M&M World was interesting and take a Gondola ride with your DH. Really the list could go on and on.

Here is a great site to visit with loads of ideas http://www.vegas.com/attractions/freeattractions.html

OMG!!! The DIS has EVERYTHING!!! LOL!!! I can't believe they have an actual forum on Vegas, so funny!!!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions... I really only thought there was gambling and pools in Vegas - I really don't pay attention because I was never interested in Vegas...
I'm an action movie fan, the more lasers and explosions, the better, and I'm really gonna press DH to let me go and shoot 'em up with the Big Guns!

we were there in June for our 1st trip. Had a rental too..
we went to Hoover Damn that was an easy drive and nice.
you have valley of the fire
and other close national parks which are great.
There is a place called Town Square which has shops and great places to eat about a mile south of the hotel - we at a nice Japanese steak w/sushi house and it was reasonable.
See some shows. We did Carrott top right in the Luxor he was great! go to 1/2 price tickets to get a discount at the big coke bottle.

I haven't been to Las Vegas since 1984 and that was not under circumstances that I would have chosen. I have heard that Las Vegas has done quite a bit to entice non-gamblers now that California has allowed more and more legal gambling in California.

What if you just checked out some of the rides that have become ever more theme-park like? If you don't expect to ever make it to Venice, the gondolas at the Venetian Hotel might be a nice pretend Venice.

Lucky....I have never been but there are so many things I want to do there.

My first priority would be to see Barry Manilow. He is not going to be there forever and I want to see HIM!

Bette Midler is there now as well as Cher. I would have to see them too.

I would also do some fine dining there!

If you are looking for a fun table game "Let It Ride" would be my choice. ;) Other than that you could find me at the video poker machine.

I went to the boat here in Feb. and it had been yrs. since I was there. The slots are just BLAH. I don't know, they do not interest me anymore they are so "cartoony".:confused3

I'm not sure if it's true, but I heard that the Monorail in Vegas uses Disney's retired monorail cars...so you could ride the Monorail and get your Disney Fix.

There are tons to do. Ive taken 5 trips there this year alone. I actually just got back on Monday from my last trip there. I spent a week there in June with some other Disers. I have a trip report of it. The link is in my siggie.

But there is so much to do that I still don't feel like I have done it all yet.
