What're the chances of "walking in" to Sci-Fi?

Thinking about a Sci-Fi lunch, but don't really wanna stress about a reservation. We are going to DHS on a Tuesday at the end of October. What're the chances we can just walk in and get a table? I'm not really sure I care about being in a car. I just wanna try the burgers and shakes :P

Sci Fi was the one request all three of my kids had for this year. I got a lunch ADR a long time ago, but when my MIL opted to join us I was unable to add ONE PERSON to our ADR because it was completely sold out. It's been nearly impossible to find another ADR!

So, for some reason, Sci Fi is pretty popular. I have never been to WDW in October, so I don't know how crowded it is then, but I am making sure to have all my ADRs for our trip next week! But then, we are a party of 5/6, so it's a lot harder for us to get in.

Hope someone else can offer better advice. Happy planning!

We've been able to walk up twice, but we are only a party of 2, and apparently that is much easier for them to accomodate. Last July, we had a late ADR, and they were able to take us about 2 hours early with just a 10-12 minute wait. In June the year before, they were able to take us for dinner without an ADR (there weren't any ADRs available when I tried to make them), but we did have to wait roughly 20-25 minutes for that one.

I'd try to make an ADR if you can, you can always cancel it later if you don't want to go, and that way you'll have it if you need it. There really is no reason not to make one, I don't see any stress with it unless it is a prepaid adr. If you do try to walk up, just understand that they might not be able to take you.

We have walked up in Oct last year, but we got there alittle before 11:00 before the lunch rush and had no problems with getting right in.

Cool. I just made a reservation for 12:50. We'll see what happens when we get there with fastpasses and stuff, and maybe we could go early or something if we need to, but at least we will have the reservation.

Thanks for the insight :)

For a party of one or two, it does not seem to be that difficult, although you will be filling in a seat in a car already occupied by another party. For larger parties, the odds decline drastically.

Hmm, so there are no private tables? Or if you don't have a reservation they combine tables?

It is hit or miss for walk ups. I think it is a "throw away" reservation for a lot of people, so they end up with openings quite frequently. It is a neat restaurant but is rarely rated a "must do" on most peoples trips.

If you think you want to go, I would just make the ADR, you know the date already, pick a time and worse comes to worse if you want to eat earlier you can stop in and see if they will take you....or if you don't make it for the ADR, take your chances later.

They have some tables, but most of the seating is in car-shaped "booths" that seat six (three rows, two seats each - small kids might be squeezed in as a third - all facing forward). If you have a party of two or four, or a party of more than six split up into two cars, it is likely that you will be sharing a car with another party, but they will be seated either in front of or behind your party and you will not have to interact with them.

If you want a table, inquire when you check in. Most guests want to sit in the cars, so it's possible they may be able to accommodate you, but I don't know how big the tables are as when I have been there I have always been in a car. They don't have a lot of tables.

I seem to recall they only have 4 of the UFO tables. Way in the back against the wall near the food pick up area. Not sure if they give precedence to those in wheelchairs since the cars really cannot be moved to accommodate needs.

As far as the sharing a car with another group, if you party has more than 2 in it someone will need to turn around to talk the rest of the party. So it's not a huge deal. They will either be in front of or behind you. No need at all to interact with them.

Walking in is hit or miss, I would say more so miss. We have had times where nothing was available at all, and other times where we called the dining line, and got a seating for 5 minutes from now and ran across the park. But as a rule of thumb, unless the weather is terrible, or you are trying for first seating, or very last seating on a late park closing, walk ups are very very rare.

we were there this past Thursday, we had reservations for 6 of us for 2:45. I walked up at 11:30, and asked if they had anything available without a reservation (we were hungry and tired already), and he said to check back after 1. (I didn't mention there was 6 of us).

We just came back at 2:30, and when they sat us, they sat us in a car, and I asked about us sitting at a table, because my dad had knee surgery, they said we would have to wait about an hour

You say that you dont want to stress over an ADR, would you be happy walking by a few hours before you want to eat and make one ? I've done this before as it was spurr of the moment decision.
