Whatever you do, dont change a reservation date at CRT (even 4 months in advance!)

we were charged full amount of 4 adults at CRT dinner in Feb 2008 for a May 2008 dinner...and yes we were on the DDP. We were told that if we planned to use DDP credits to tell the check in people and our waiter at the time of the meal, and the amount would be credited back to our credit card. But we were told everyone pays in advance for the meal, no matter what plan they're on.

Nope, that's incorrect. You are not supposed to have to pay in advance if you are on the dining plan. They are just supposed to use your card as a guarantee.

OK so let's say for instance they are supposed to charge me full price at the time the reservation is made....

Why was I not charged the first time I booked and all of a sudden I'm being charged now?!

I booked CRT at the six month mark for our last trip in May and had not added the dining plan to our DVC reservation yet. I had to give my cc number and was charged when I made the reservation. After I added the deluxe plan to our room reservation a few months later, I called back and requested a refund of the CRT charge. I received the refund on the cc right away. They did confirm that I was on the dining plan before they credited me.

I did the exact same thing, except I am on the regular DDP. I had made my ressies 6 months out but waited for the free dining promotion before booking my package. (I actually ended up switching days too.) The CM said they just needed my package reservation # and the refund showed up on my next CC statement.

So, in answer to the earlier questions, you can't just say you have the DDP, you need to have a reservation # for your package (which includes the dining).
