Whatever happened to the Pirates of the Caribbean restaurant idea?

In 2007, we were told by several cast members that Walt Disney World planned to build a Pirates of the Caribbean table-service restaurant in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom by 2008.

Why would Walt Disney World back out of these plans?

Since the Walt Disney Company never officially announced that this would happen, anything you heard from cast members would have to be categorized as rumor only, so it can't be confirmed that they really did have solid plans to open a restaurant like that.

If there was a plan, it may have been usurped by the Pirate League (like a BBB for pirates) which opens in June.

It would be nice. I still remember eating at DL in Blue Bayou and loved the theming. The POC ride at WDW is shorter and different from th DL version so you would not get the same effect but I would love to see one.

I bet they'll open up a restaurant- in the peco's bill area- once they see how popular the pirate BBB will be. They'll want to tie it in with a meal. imho

There is an empty building to the right of, and just past the entrance to, Adventureland.

I believe it was a restaurant back when MK first opened. This would be a perfect place for a pirate restaurant pirate:!

Good call... I forgot about that one.... Anyone know what it was called?

This would be a cool place to eat! What kind of food do you think they'd serve?

That would be fun! But if it's not done by now, I'd guess that any plans they had were scrapped. It does sound like you just heard a rumor, not an official statement. I'm sure they are constantly discussing new restaurant ideas, most of which never happen.
I, too, would wonder about what kind of food would be served. There doesn't seem to be an obvious tie-in, other than rum, which would pose a problem.

I like Nala's idea that it be outside of MK to liven up the beverage menu. Epcot's WS has that underthemed African area between China and Germany. Perhaps they'll open a Pirate restaurant there with Somalian food? ;)

I think it'd be cool, too, and I was wondering about what type of food, too. Maybe Carribean cuisine?

If it were authentic pirate food it would be bar-b-que. The word Bucaneer comes from the French term that basically means BBQ because that is how the "bucaneers" prepared their foods - BBQ on spits over fire.

Bring on the ribs and brisket, me harties! pirate:
