What you cook for NYE?

We fondue. It's a fun "active" meal that entertains us. We do a cheese pot, a broth pot and a chocolate pot.

Dippers include- veggies, soft pretzel pieces, beef filet, shrimp, lobster, chicken, tortelleni, sour green apples, bread & for dessert- marshmallows, leftover holiday cookies, pretzels, fruit & brownies!

YUM can't wait!

Am I the only healthy one ?

Our dinner for 3, DH, DW & DS - our DD is going to a NYE's party at a friends house (sleepover for 15 year olds)....

Club soda with a spritz of OJ for flavor in wine glasses for ambience
Shrimp lightly bushed with butter and garlic, then broiled.
Raw cut up carrots, Birdseye steamed veggies (in the micowave)
French bread
Dessert: Baked apples

We also have toy poppers left over from Christmas. The long tube kind with a funny hat, fortune, small toy and confetti inside.

We will watch a movie and then the NYC time square ball drop on TV at midnight.

We ate enough junk at Christmas - I think our bodies need a healthier meal. :rotfl:

Um...I saw several people list health options. Not sure what made your's more healthy then theirs?

Can I have your recipe for hopping john.

I apologize, I just saw this , here is the short cut version

white rice ( how much depends on you) about 2 cups if you are using a big pot cook rice to directions on package

In separate pan cook some bacon 2 to 3 slices, remove bacon slices and save the drippings

If you like, you can also add in some ham hock as well, cook till done and then add to pot of Black eye peas or field peas ( can version rinsed twice will have to do since you don't have time to soak it ( unless you get started now then soak either pea overnight and cook in the am.

Take canned peas, add to bacon drippings and ham hocks, season to taste ( black pepper, sea salt, nature seasoning) bring to boil it should thicken up ( you can also add 1 or 2 sprigs of green onions if you like)

Take rice and add to beans mix together and let it cook down ( you can also just serve it over the rice instead or on the side)

That is a crash course of doing it:rolleyes1 ENJOY !

One meal does not a healthy lifestyle make or break, and I think plenty of people have listed less decadent meal and/or options

Exactly. We splurge for Christmas Eve and NYE. Most of the rest of the year, we eat very healthy.

Usually we do an appetizer buffet for NYE, but this year it was just DH, our 2 littlest ones, and I. We did crab legs (I got a new stockpot/steamer insert for Christmas) baked potatoes and corn on the cob. DS6 "made" chocolate chip cookies for dessert (from fridged cookie dough)

We mix up healthy and unhealthy here too. Moderation.:)

We are having the inlaws over tomorrow. They will come at 2 and we will get out all of the kids Christmas toys and PLAY!!:goodvibes
After board games, wii, lego, etc we will eat

Ham
Potato/Cheese casserole
Asparagus
Corn
Salad (prob a regular garden salad).

We love ringing in the New Year with a play day:)

We had a NYE dinner. I made some snow crab legs, shrimp cocktail, cajun smoked fish, cranberry/chili sauce meatballs, raw beef and onions on rye.
My oldest went to her best friends house, my youngest is in bed, and the DH and I might not make it til midnight lol!
