What Would You Want to Do on a Solo Trip?

Yep, NAEYC here, too! I'm looking forward to the conference almost as much as the parks. Looks like some excellent workshops! We should start an NAEYC thread.

I was curious too of doing a character breakfast just by myself since I am doing this for my dad's colleague daughters. I was planning on getting them autograph books and hoping to get some character autographs around the resort. I too was wondering if it would feel weird by eating alone at the Plaza for breakfast. I have done solo TS at CO and it doesn't bother me. Some DISers say that I should not think of a negative way and think about how I would make those two young girls happy with a book filled with Disney character autographs.

I think it would be fun to do a character breakfast on my own. When I go with my DH and DDs, I'm usually so busy hoping up to help one of my girls fill a plate or taking pictures, or preventing (or wiping up) spills, that I miss out on some great interaction with the characters. It's definitely a favorite for our family to do, though, and kinda pricey, so I'm not planning on doing it this time. If we hadn't just done a few in the last 10 months, I'd definitely be adding it to my "solo list". It would be a fun and really easy way to get some autographs. There are enough business travelers who stay in the hotels, that I don't think they'd bat an eye at a single diner.

1. Stop and visit with Farley The Fiddler on the front porch of the Davy Crockett Pioneer Mercantile (on the left as you enter Frontierland). An absolutely unique experience. He's there Monday-Friday 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30, and 5:30 for 30 minutes each set.

2. See the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies show at the Golden Horseshoe in Frontierland. Thursday - Monday at 12:15, 1:30, 3:15, 4:30, and 5:30. Thyey also do an 11:15 set on the porch of the Davy Crockett Pioneer Mercantile - with Farley on Mon-Thu-Fri.

3. Try the Chicken Fusilli at Redd Rockett's Pizza Port in Tomorrowland. It's a big favorite among the regular guests.

4. If you like acoustic music well played and sung, catch the Miner 49'ers at DCA on Highway 49 across from the entrance to Grizzly River Run. Thurs-Mon 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, 2:30, 3:30, 4:30.

5. Check out the Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo - at this time of year, they have exceptional decorations, exhibitions of pumpkin carvings, and incredible magicians. If you really have an appetite, try the all you can eat barbecue at the restaurant next door - or just hang out on the trail in the back and enjoy the live entertainment.

And definitely take the time to look at all of the details you never noticed before - the different little characters cranking the popcorn tumblers on the carts (especially the one in front of Haunted Mansion) - the impeccable job the gardeners (horticulture dept.?) do every night to make the place so pretty.

And just smile and make eye contact with as many people as you can, Cast Members and other guests. It's fun! Just randomly high 5 a Cast Member.

And just - have fun!

These are all great! I do love Billy Hill. He's one of my DDs favorites, too (she plays violin). I think it would be fun to grab a snack and get a table early and just hang out and wait for a show. Adding to the list! I'll check out Farley the Fiddler, too and the Miner 49'ers, too!!!

I'm going to make a point of trying to see all the little "people" in the popcorn carts this time. I tried pointing out some to my DDs on our last trip, but I get caught up, busy, and forget. I've decided I am going to bring our camera and have fun playing with it, so I'll see if I can't get a shop of each character. I don't know if I caught who is in the popcorn cart by the HM. I do remember the Yeti by the Matterhorn!

I'll make a point of randomly high-fiving a CM. I did ask if a "Jim" was working when we ate at the BB last September, but no luck. The CMs who were working were terrific, however, and my family had a great lunch right at a waterside table.

I'm glad you had fun - that's why Walt built the place. I am often lately at Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, and sometimes at the Carnation Cafe on Main Street. I'm 6'3", and old enough to have lots of wrinkles (smile wrinkles of course), so if you look for old tall Jim with wrinkles (or just Cowboy Jim at the Ranch) you'll find me. And if you don't, my fellow cast members will be doing their best to make your day memorable anyway.

I'm definitely planning on a trip to CC this solo trip and I'm thinking the BBQ may be the way to go for our day trip with extended family in December, so I'll keep any eye out at both places!
