What would you think?

If your pediatrician's office was never busy, no matter what time of day your appointment was, would that concern you?

They are affliated with a very highly esteemed children's hospital in the area, but we are almost always the only ones there. Our appointments have been at all times of day, on different days of the week.

It just makes me wonder...

Whenever I go to the peds with the kids they are hardly ever busy (at least by the looks in the waiting room. They are a practice of about 6 Drs. The Drs. are great there and it seems everyone I know uses them. I chalk it up to they don't overbook and are efficient.

I suppose it would make me wonder but on the other hand, maybe they are one of the very few practices that don't overbook patients. There have been times that our peditrician's office has been empty, but not too often. Our orthodontist's office runs like clockwork so many times we are the only ones there, yet everyone seems to go to this dr.

Either they're highly efficient or they're not very popular.

Our pediatrician group (also associated with an esteemed hospital in the area ;) ) is always very busy, but they're good about getting kids in mostly on time, especially since when you're dealing with kids, you don't want to make them wait too much. Plus, with something like 12 checkup rooms in the office, usually they can get you to a room so that the nurses can do all the prep stuff before the doctor sees you. :)

As long as they work with a good hospital, I would just think that they are a well-organized office and maybe they don't accept a lot of health insurance contracts.

My endocrinologist's office is like that. I am the only one ever in the waiting room.

My son's lung specialist is also like that. They book 30 minute appointments and they never get backed up.

Now, my ped's office is another story. They accept every insurance under the sun. They also have 10 doctors. While we never have to wait long, the office is always hopping!

Another viewpoint -if they are "owned" by the hospital they may be salaried and are able to not overbook.
If they are in business for themselves they may "eat what they kill" in otherwords- Their paycheck depends on how many patients they see.

You made me remember how tough I was on pediatricians! I changed 4 times until I found one I liked. I can't remember how busy the waiting room was in any of them, I just wanted one that: Was kind to DD, didn't treat me like an idiot, spent as much time as I needed with us during appointments, and was on board with my breastfeeding as long as I thought it was best.

I think a good relationship is very important -- if you have one, I wouldn't worry about anything else. And don't be afraid to change if anything bothers you!

I did the same thing with dentists -- I took her to a very popular pediatric dentist and walked out the first day without letting the dentist see her because they wouldn't let me go back with her!!!!! (She was 3.) Didn't see to bother anyone else in the packed waiting room, though :confused3 .
