What Would You Serve?

DH sort of got volunteered into heading a subcomittee for our PTO. About 4 other members on this comittee will be meeting at our house 1 night next week at 7:00pm. Would you serve them anything? I will have coffee available(dont have a coffeemaker, but Ill arrange one) and I do have teabags. Of course I have spring water too, but would you have anything else on hand to offer them? Food? More drinks? ???

I would have cake or cookies to offer along with the coffee. Nothing much but it's a nice gesture. Given the time of day (after dinner), I would not bother with any sort of hors d'oevres or appetizers.

How about providing drinks and everyone can take turns bringing some cookies or a light desert? He could do it the first night and have a little sign up sheet for the other meetings. There's no reason, if you're going to have food, that he should provide it every week.

Coffee and cookies or pie sounds good to me.

herc.

My good old standby is crackers and cheese! Light snack but tasty. Or a vegetable platter. Something you can pick up from the local supermarket.

I would also go with some type of dessert. Cookies or petit fours are usually big hits around here. Personally, I would also serve de-caf at that time of day.

I would serve my old standby, cubed Jalepeno or Monterey Jack cheese with crackers and presliced pepperoni. It's always a hit and so easy.
Maybe some kind of brownies or cookies too, but they always go for the cheese and crackers first...:)

Thanks for all the input. At that time of night I dont think Ill do any real food, but maybe the cookies. We usually have out PTO meetings on the same weeknight at the same time and there are no refreshments at all, but with this being at my house I feel I should offer something.
This is a 1 time thing(hopefully, LOL!) so it shouldnt be too bad.

I think cookies are fine. I was always impressed when I went for small committee meetings at someone's house and they put out tea/coffee/cookies. Just a really nice touch. And I always did it!

And some fresh fruit (grapes, sliced apples/pears/oranges) with yogurt dip makes a nice, healthy, light snack as well.

A cold drink would be nice, maybe just offer a soda or diet soda, and we usually just have something sweet like a bowl of m&ms and a bowl of pretzels sitting out.

I am glad that someone else thought about fruit... cheese and crackers, fruit and some cookies or just one of them..........maybe just cookies.. and some peanuts and M & M's around.. Actually some people do not drink hot drinks.. so maybe coke or pepsi.. it can get expensive to host these meets.. LOL so do what you are comfortable with.. Hi to Peter..... hugs to you..

What about chips and dips, nachos and salsa, toatsted pita bread with hummus for dipping (not double dipping though). Fruit with a dip is always a great pick on food. I make a dip using softened cream cheese and fluffanutter!! It is yummy!!

Have fun!!

Oh more good ideas! Thanks everyone.

Thats exactly why I was thinking about this Mackey, because I dont drink coffee or tea. I always do have diet coke on hand, but maybe Ill get some regular coke too. I know if I went somewhere like this where they only offered coffee it wouldnt bother me to do without, but I would feel bad for someone to have nothing at my house. I wish I knew these people a little better to know what they like.

I think this should be a short informal meeting with only a few people so I dont really want to go all out. I know Id be the one who eats all the left overs.
