What Would You Pick

If you had the dining plan for ten days, and were basically a first-timer as far as TS restaurants were concerned, which ones would you pick? I have a trip next year, that will not be solo. (I don't know weather to be happy or not about that LOL.) And the person I'm traveling with, has never been to many restaurants at Disney. To make this even more technical, I'm going to automatically leave out every place she's already tried; Sci Fi, Prime Time, CRT, San Angel Inn, and Hoop Dee Doo.

That narrows down the TS at MGM to H&V, Brown Derby, and mama Melrose. H&V is a buffet, and has characers from playhouse disney (little Einsteins and JoJo/ Goliath) at B & L, but not dinner. BD is 2TS, if that makes any difference, and is supposed to be a extra special experience (I wouldnt know). Mama Mel's is italian food. With those details, you should be able to make a decision about MGM.

How do you and your companion feel about family style service, buffets, and character meals? And what resort if any will you be at? these things can be deciding factors

I'd suggest Boma, Spoodles, LTT for lunch, GF Cafe, Kona Cafe, Rose and Crown and Plaza for TS restaurants.

TS Magic Kingdom: Love Crystal Palace Buffet, we usually do a late lunch, the food is outstanding,the characters are an added bonus
TS Epcot: LOVE Le Cellier, great food and you have to try the Maple Creme Brulee
Disney Studios: Brown Derby: Excellent Cobb Salad!
Resorts: We really like Spoodles on the Boardwalk, Love Kona--an especially great place for a quiet breakfast and a great cup of coffee

MK: Another vote for Crystal Palace - we're not really into buffets, but this is a good one!

Boardwalk: Spoodles for breakfast or dinner, Flying Fish (2 TS)

DTD: Wolfgang Puck Cafe - one of our absolute favorites

With 10 days to play with, plenty of choices. Here's just a few suggestions:

L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante in Epcot

Crystal Palace in MK (try for 10:20 or 10:30 AM if you want to have BOTH breakfast & lunch food to choose from & have extra time with characters)

Rose & Crown in Epcot

Le Cellier Steakhouse in Epcot (One of the BEST, but you'll need to get reservations 180 days in advance, exactly, to have a prayer)

Liberty Tree Tavern in MK is good (not GREATEST EVER, but good)

Even if you're on the DDP, I'd recommend paying OOP for Beaches & Cream at the Beach Club, it's GREAT, its NOT expensive, & its worth it!

If you enjoy great steaks, separate from Le Cellier, you might well like the Yachtsman Steakhouse in the Yacht Club... it's 2 TS credits, though.

Just some thoughts... whatever you do, whereever you eat, Enjoy the Magic!

disneyfav4ever: we are trying DDP for 9 days in March(and in the past have not done many TS restaurants). Our plan includes Le Cellier & Coral Reef(based simply on posts I've read here), Chef Mickeys, Akershus, Liberty Tree Tavern and 1900 Park Fare(character meals for my 2 kids), H&V for the Fantasmic Package, ESPN Club (for my sports fans) and have not yet decided on our last one.

Given the choices left at MGM I would most likely start a day at MGM (counter service to hold you over) and hop over to Epcot to finish the night off with Dinner somewhere in the World Showcase - depending on tastes - Italy, Canada, England, IMHO are the better options. If you want to see Fantasmic though I would do the Derby dinner option.

Magic Kingdom - we love lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern - good home cooking and we usually end up with the Turkey Dinner. They have an unbelievable Praline dessert here too. Usually a subdued quieter atmospher in afternoons vs. dinner home style character meal too.
CP is a wonderful option too if you enjoy a buffet. Food was really fresh and tasty standard breakfast fare. Lunch/Dinner I hear is very good too but we have not tried it yet.

Contemporary Resort - Concourse Steakhouse - food was excellent and an opportunity to sit back and relax. We found the service slow here but we also had a 3 & 4 year old to tend to and like to be able to get out before the antsyness starts. Had it been DH & I it would have been better. Monorail runs overhead and open atmosphere.

Wilderness Lodge - Whispering Canyon Cafe - most of the food here had an Cowboy type air about it and the all you can eat skillet was greasy but very good - LOVE their cornbread!!! Atmosphere can get a little lively but all in good fun.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have to make ADRs until April, but want to be planned well in advance. I have a trip tomorrow, and will be using that as "what to pick" as well. I've eaten at a lot of TS restaurants, and after next week, will have eaten at even more. It's the fact that I won't be solo, and can't just think of myself, that gets me all anxious, and overwhelmed. Actually, when I'm solo I don't use the DDP, and have DDE, and eat at several TS restaurants a day. So this will be both of our first times with the DDP. I know she wants to try Le Cellier and Brown Derby, and CP is my favorite breakfast on property. (Which I suggested we could do CP OOP, but she doesn't want to pay for extra meals, even though CP with the DDE, would only be $15. )

She also really isn't big on character meals. She wouldn't mind going to a couple, but last year I went to one a day for a few days straight, and she'd never do that. Which means I'll have to limit myself to one or two, three at the most. She also doesn't mind buffets, but she really worries about health and sanitation things at those. I may be dining at CP alone one morning. But, I know I can talk her into trying Boma.

We would also be going during the Food and Wine Festival, and would probably attend a Party for the Senses. I will definatly be attending one, who-knows with her. (We're splitting the cost of the trip right down the middle as far as the room, and each paying for our own flights, and tickets, etc. Anything extra we do, (MNSSHP, Party for the Senses, etc,) we'd be paying for ourselves.)

I know she doesn't want to go to MNSSHP, but at the same time, she'd get kind of mad if I ditched her, and she'd have to eat by herself. So I was thinking, the night I do MNSSHP either to go to Tony's, (she's a major Lady and the Tramp fan,) or Kona, since I think she'd like that restaurant.

We went for the first time on DDP in October as did several friends of ours, so I will tell you all of our favorites.

We loved, loved Whispering Canyon Cafe! It was a little loud, but a lot of fun. We ate the skillet meal which consisted of ribs, chicken, smoked sausage, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and baked beans. Delicious! This was my husband and three daughters favorite restaurant also.

We also really enjoyed the Coral Reef. Great steak and they have lots of fish dinners. You can go to www.allears.net to see menus. This restaurant has an aquarium in it.

Crystal Palace at MK has a very good buffet. MGM the 50's diner was a lot of fun. The fried chicken is good there, but mind your manners.

Our friends recommended Boma, we want to try that next time and they liked Chef Mickey's. Have fun and don't eat too much!!
