So I am taking my parents along with me on a big 21 day graduation trip to Disney World and a Disney Cruise (14 days at WDW and 7-day cruise) in December of 2019. By this time Star Wars land will be open and the usual busy holiday crowds will be in the parks. We have never been to Disney World in any month that didn't include triple digit temps. The problem that I am facing is what I should do about what resort and room to get. I was planning on renting points through David's DVC Rental for a 2 bedroom villa at Copper Creek but the problem with that is you can't reserve the room until 11 months before your arrival date. But I can get two normal hotel rooms when they release 2019 rooms in June of this year. Should I take a chance by waiting to get a room through renting points or just get normal hotel rooms? I'm just afraid of the inevitable huge demand for all rooms because of the holidays plus Star Wars Land opening in 2019. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Book the regular rooms on a room only reservation as soon as you can. Then when the window opens for a DVC points rental see what you can get. If you can get what you want from David's you can cancel the room only reservation with no penalty. If you can't, then you have your rooms booked and can change them into a package if you want to add tickets or dining. Sounds like a great trip. Cheers!!!!!

Personally, I'd book a room only room (or rooms) somewhere that I'd be satisfied to stay. Then at least I'd know I had a room that would make me happy. If you do get the villa you want, it's easy to cancel a room only reservation, and you won't be out any money. Room only requires just one night deposit, with nothing else due until check in, and you can cancel and get a refund up to 5 days prior to check in. It's a good way to cover your bases.

Absolutely book the rooms. While there may be more CCV points sold by January 2019, new resorts are very hard to get 11-month rentals at because new buyers tend to want to use their own points. You simply cannot count on being able to book CCV at 11 months; even at 11 months, a DVC member can only book 7 nights. And as it gets towards 7 months, odds of getting the unit go down daily.

A two bedroom villa at CCV for 14 nights is going to require a whole lot of points. It is going to be tough to find an owner with that many points at 11 months out. December is also very popular with DVC owners, so you will have lots of competition.
